First, I want to make it clear that my wife and I would both recommend this resort but want to point out the resort's pitfalls that significantly lowered the top rating. Please take this into consideration while reading this review: Many employees actively solicited us in the resort over the first few days including tricking us into a "timeshare" sales... more
I didn't think of myself as the kind of person who would do "all inclusive". I thought of it as for Americans who don't want any "foreigners" around on their vacations. I signed up for this one as a concession to my husband and kids, who wanted the sailboats and waterslides, respectively. The free all-day margaritas also helped tip the... more
I selected this hotel specifically for the kids club as I have a 3 year old and an 8 month old. When I went to leave the kids at the kids club, they informed me the policy had changed as of the Saturday I arrived and they now only take kids over 2 years old. After threatening to leave, one... more
I wish I would have reviewed this place before we went for a 2 week honeymoon. Kids EVERYWHERE. Our room was clean and well appointed. Views spectacular. Pools were nice, if you do not mind kids bumping into you at every turn. Not much in the way of nighlife. Food got old very quickly. Seafood was always overdone or rubbery.... more
Stayed here for 5 days in late May. Swine flu and drug war scare has left hotel (and Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo in general) empty of any foreign tourists except those from Mexico who know that TV exaggerates everything. To fellow Americans -- NOW IS THE TIME TO TRAVEL TO IXTAPA. It's completely safe and poses no health hazards that don't... more
Stayed five days, did not see the food repitition that others saw. All meals were great, though we made an effort to rotate through each restaurant (make reservations for the two non-buffet options when you check in) but hey, they're buffets, what do you expect the French Laundry? Other guest were probably 90% Mexican families on spring break, but staff... more
Just got back. Everything was fine but the reason we booked at this hotel was the experience of the food available during previous Melia-resort vacations (Melia Puerto Vallarta twice - excellent and Melia Punta Cana twice - outstanding) - in contrast the food here was very repetitive and very limited. On one day the same menu was serverd for lunch... more
Staff was outstanding, rooms very clean and spacious, very happy with the food (especially the a la carte!) and beverages. But there are just sooooo many children everywhere. I'd read that and thought I'd prefer that over the spring break crowd. But after a few days of the little tykes, I decided next time I'll pick an all-adult hotel. Even... more
We traveled with our 5 year old son and another couple with a 2.5 year old daughter. We chose Melia Azul because of the photos of the children's pool and Flintstone's playground. We were not disappointed. The kids loved the children's water park. And we thoroghly enjoyed laying out by the pool and relaxing. Best of all, the pool staff... more
