BEWARE! The worst thing for a hotel is 'no show' guests. The worst thing for guests is a 'not there' hotel. With a confirmed reservation from decolar and a current printout of a map and directions from the hotel's website, we arrived (Jan. 7, 2013) where the hotel is supposed to be only to discover a reconstruction site and a... I was a little concerned about this hotel before I arrived as we'd booked it through an agent's recommendation, only to then read the negative views on here. Casa Vieja is a charming, rustic place in the heart of the ever so cool, Polanco. We enjoyed our stay here, however it does need a little love and attention. The aircon... More

Casa Vieja is a charming and colourful example of an old Mexican house, with tasteful and appropriate room furnishings. The staff are very friendly and made you feel very welcome. The rooftop restaurant, under a bamboo slatted roof, was a beautiful area with a well stocked bar and ferns and greenery to add to the atmosphere. The location is perfect... More

Rooms are outdated and AC doesn't function. Service is average. Hotel Restraunt is average for the price. The hotel owners family and their friends are often loud and drinking in the restaurant which makes it uncomfortable for guests. Rooms are overpriced. Much better hotels in same Polanco neighborhood.

I’ve stayed at this hotel a few dozen times over the last several years and have always had great experiences. While I am not always able to stay at this hotel (often booked solid) when I visit Mexico City, it is my favorite in the Polanco area. As other reviewers have noted, this is a boutique hotel – it looks... More

My stay in the Casa Vieja was really like staying in an old house. The house is complete with all the artistic details put in over a long period of time by a loving owner and all the incompetent maintenance of utilities overlooked by the seemingly ageing and senile owner. Upon my late night arrival, I was greeted by five... More

We were off to the Cuernavaca area for a week and wanted to stay in Mexico City for the first night. Friends recommended Casa Vieja. Sent a couple of e-mails to the hotel in late December asking about availability and phoned the desk a couple of times to follow up. My e-mails weren't answered and the people on the desk... More

Under new management and clearly no idea how to run a hotel - faulty airconditioning, sodden carpets, dank musty smell, little natural light, snacks in room beyond expiry date - prepaid room not refunded - staff untrained, dishonest, unhelpful.

We had a very pleasant 3 day stay at Casa Vieja. Often the term "Boutique" is applied to hotels that are simply small, this however is truly boutique experience. Small yes, but also intimate and with excellent service. We didn't get off to a good start when we arrived late to be greeted by the security guard. A nice chap... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Unique concept in Mexico City, the 10 Suites Casa Vieja was originally a private mansion. As a hotel it continues to have the warm ambience, appointments, intimacy and luxury lifestyle a lovely home. Its location also privileged in the residential section of the elegant Polanco neighborhood, across the street from Parque Polanco with its lovely ponds, statuary gardens and occasional concert. Polanco also has some of Mexico City’s finest restaurants, shops, and a vibrant cafe society and nightlife. Within close walking distance are important museums, multinational headquarters, and the section of the tree-lined Paseo de la Reforma where three of the city’s finest large, “conventional” hotels are located. The decor is a never-ending discovery of caringly collected antiques, fine art, and regional craftwork from the most remote villages of Mexico. Quarry-stone floors and thick walls create soothing seclusion and tranquility an amazing hacienda retreat within the center of one of the world’s biggest and most exciting capital cities. ... more   less
