Was going to write a nice long review but just read the one below before posting: “Loved It” by sunsquashed. Don’t need to say much more other than we agree with everything he said. Actually, we were there at the same time and are the couple that found the scorpion which we thought was pretty cool. It was practically comatose.... more

OK, this place isn't a five star hotel. Calakmul is pretty remote, so don't expect an all-inclusive Cancun/Playa del Carmen like hotel. If you are interested in visiting Calakmul, you are hopefully not expecting that sort of thing anyway, but it seems some of the reviewers had overly high expectations. Given what/where it is, his hotel is great. The rooms... more

This small lodge with about 15 rooms is at the turn-off to Calakmul (which is about an hour's drive further further down into the biosphere). The eco-lodge (interpretation: no AC, limited warm water) is actually about 700m from the main road - you can hear occasional road noise, but you are in the forest (we saw toucans, humming birds, and... more

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Puerta Calakmul at the end of April. It's the perfect location for seeing the amazing ruins of Calakmul (definately try to go first thing in the morning). It's a very cute set up and the bungalows were very clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the restaurant was good. My only... more

I would have given it 5 stars but we didn't have hot water in the shower. Which I guess is a pretty big thing. But, we didn't ask the management to fix it or switch rooms so I can't knock off that much. The rooms are great and it's the next best thing to camping. It was great to hear... more

This hotel was one the most expensive hotels we stayed in during our journey (1200pesos). To us it was a stopover to visit the ruins. Had this hotel been cheaper I probably would have given it 4 or 5. You do need a car to get this hotel. The rooms are brilliant, yes, there was a few insects (it is... more

We discovered this place on a trip called, "Hidden Maya Cities of the Yucatan". It is located just off the main highway between Escarcega and Chetumal on the way to Calakmul. We were scheduled to be there for two nights, and it is a place listed as having no telephone number. It also has no air-conditioning. Our doubts disappeared when... more

Puerta Calakmul's website is hard to find on the Internet. Judging from others' comments on Tripadvisor there have been difficulties in contacting the property. We mentioned this to the manager and he provided us with this website: It is http://www.puertacalakmul.com.mx. We stayed for two nights in April with children aged 6 and 9. The cabinas are very rustic - just... more

Stayed here on Dec 12th.07. First off, we were quoted 110 dollars on the website, but when we arrived we were told it was 120 dollars..So that was a big disappointment to start off with. The accomodations are great, had a nice place with no bugs and everything was clean. The meals were a bit overpriced for mexico standards, but... more

My wife and I stayed there in early October 2007 on our way from Belize to Tulum and we really enjoyed it. In general, for the individual traveller it is really time-consuming (and not necessarily cheaper) to get to Calakmul by bus and taxi. So we chose to rent a car in Chetumal (e.g. at the Holiday Inn). Driving is... more
