First the place is noisy not really in the jungle.. It is located near a highway: you are kept awake all night because of the trucks passing by. Second: although the cabanas are comfortable, you can't flush the toilet properly and the shower gives you such a little amount of water that you can't actually " take a shower" Third:... more

We spent several nights at Rio Bec Dreams in January and found it perfect as a base for exploring the Mayan ruins of the Rio Bec region. We visited many of the sites, including Becan, Chicanna, Dzibanche, Kohunlich, Xpujil and, of course, Calakmul. We hired Diane LaLonde (she and her husband, Rick, run Rio Bec Dreams) as our guide for... more

We stayed 3 nights at Rio Bec dreams in one of the two cabanas with a private bathroom. The day we arrived Diane and Rick were not there to welcome us, therefore they left a message on the counter for the arriving guests and the mexican maid led us to our cabana. (Friendly gesture, as our spanish was more than... more

Lonely Planet mislead us on this one. The service is by far my biggest complaint. It took us over an hour to get a meal at the hotel bar, and since Rio Bec Dreams is located 15 minutes past Xpujil in the middle of nowhere, the hotel bar is really the only option for eating. The food is very pricey,... more

My husband and I spent three days in March this year at Rio Bec Dreams. We were looking for a special place, and Rio Bec Dreams more than met our expectations. We read their website description and it sounded wonderful, but often reality disappoints. In this case the Rio Bec Dreams website tells the truth. The place really is as... more

When I visited Rio Bec Dreams, I was ready for a little adventure, but not too much. Reo Bec Dreams was perfect. It was like going to a camp grounds, except you don't need to bring a camper or food. And the food was great. I had a great meal with folks staying at a less adventuresome resort with less... more

A small place where the owners, Diane and Rick, make you feel completely at home. The cabana in which we stayed is charming and has all the amenities you might need. They offer tours and we took one with Diane; she was great- truly informative. The set up also permits much interchange with other guests, who seem to come mostly... more

This is basically the only place to stay (for the price) so you have the time to see the ruins of Calacmul. We arrived in the afternoon, settled in, got information on the ruins, and prepared to leave the next morning. (a guide to the ruins by Rick and Diane was provided) The drive was over 2 hours to Calacmul,... more

Rio Bec Dreams is located on the edge of the Calakmul biosphere and while the area around the buildings is more like a garden, it is located right on the edge of the tall forest jungle. Anyone planning to visit Calakmul must stay here (not that there are a lot of other choices yet) and if possible arrange in advance... more

I spent two nights at Rio Bec Dreams because I wanted to visit Calakmul, and I was very pleased with my experience there. Diane and Rick have created a friendly oasis in a rather out-of-the-way location. My “jungalow” was quite comfortable, surprisingly private, and more than adequate for my needs. Neither Diane nor Rick were there when I arrived; in... more
