The hacienda comes with a varied history a home of rich spanish conquistador families and horse ranch, sissal estate then bought by the American University as a base when the archaeologists came to Chichen Itza. The rooms are little huts in the beautifully restored Botanical gardens full of native trees and plants each is named after the main Archaeologist that... more

We stayed at Hacienda Chichen, originally built by Spanish Conquistadors and later used as a basecamp by archeologists excavating Chichen Itza. It is a 5 minute walk to the entrance. Along with our guide, we could visit the ruins before the tour buses from Merida and Cancun arrived! We had unobstructed views and could hear each word of our excellent... more

first of all: we live in Mexico, actually not far from chichen itza', in merida. we stayed here for 2 nights - i must confess being a bit disappointed. the location is incredible, and the gardens wonderful. we stayed in a suite. the patio was shared though, and not private, and we did pay quite a lot more than the... more

The location and the surronding landscape was awesome. Our room was surronded by a beautiful garden, and there was a hammock and rocking chairs on the patio. The welcome drink- pineapple juice and chaya was delicious. The room was okay. No TV. The restaurant was good/ great, but a bit expensive- nice and polite wait staff. Chichen itza was walking... more

The location of this hotel cannot be faulted - it's literally 5 mins away on foot and through the quiet back entrance, so no queues. However, I agree with other reviews in that clearly take advantage of the lack of alternatives in the vicinity. Wine was ridiculously overpriced but the food was absolutely fine in taste and quality but again,... more

My girlfriend and I stayed at Hacienda Chichen for 7 nights during the first week of August 2009. We wanted something that was far, far away from the heavily-touristed eastern coast of the peninsula, was near some of the best Mayan ruins, and would give us something approaching an authentic look at the Yucatan. Hacienda Chichen managed all of that... more

A fabulous hacienda, surounded by a luxuriant vegetation and a few minutes walk away from the Ruins "hotel" entrance. A must when visiting Chichen Itza! more

Stayed one night after a visit to Chichen Itza. Place was incredibly quiet - in fact we may have been the only ones staying. Room which was meant to be a honeymoon suite was fine - but it felt like a motel room. It was spotlessly clean and had what you needed but was essentially a basic room. We had... more

This is a lovely building in beautiful surroundings. Unfrtunately some things rather let it down, Our room had a very noisy air conditioner that rattled away even when turned off. It was noisy throughout the night, If we had stayed for any more I would have asked for another room. There was very little storage space - again only one... more

Last November my husband and I rented a car in Cancun and ventured into the Yucatan Peninsula to explore Chichen Itza, Uxmal, Merida and the Ruta Puuc. Each part of the trip was fascinating. Our two night stay at Hacienda Chichen proved to be relaxing, intimate and the staff was very helpful. Occupancy at the hacienda seemed fairly light, however... more
