I visited Isla Mujeres for the eighth time for ten days in April, 2003.
I stayed at the CrystalMar Resort for the first time and I am sorry to say I was very disappointed. The hotel is undergoing renovations and it was a mess. It was also very crowded and noisey, even at 2:00 am - kids were shouting, screaming and playing in the pool. A playa type restaurant is next door and boats full of tourists kept coming from 10:00 am until evening. The tourists took over our swimming area, beach and palapas. Most of them visited the turtle farm on the other side of the CrystalMar and used our beach as the pathway to get there. So we had a constant parade of tourists walking back and forth across our narrow beach all day. The food was okay but has a limited menu and is no comparison to Villa Rolandi's, Rolandi's Pizza (downtown), or other good restaurants downtown. The kitchen area, utensils cubboards, counter etc were sticky and grimey - UGH! We had to request beach towels several times...
