I stayed at the Fiesta Americana for 5 nights in March 2008 while in town for a conference. My room was reasonably sized -- fine for one person -- and clean. The room was not bad for a chain -- clearly someone had made an effort to consider the local culture and incorporate that into the furnishings and decor. As... more

We stayed in this hotel after we could not get a room at the Hyatt; boy were we surprised. The Staff was simply excellent and very friendly, very accomodating and always available. They know everything about Merida and about where you may want/need to go. The food was decent at the restaurants, but beware the fruit flies at the breakfast... more

I can't really complain about the hotel - it is pretty much what you would expect from a 4/5 star hotel such as this. However, Merida is a lovely old colonial town with gorgeous boutique hotels everywhere and I was so disappointed to not stay in one of those. If you want to stay in a huge marble monstrosity go... more

Beautiful hotel with very nice rooms and great pool. Problems: hotel is not near the center of town, so you need to take a taxi or bus; food options are terrible (the food and service quality in the hotel restaurants was consistently appalling, but this seemed to be a problem at all the restaurants we tried in the area). Don't... more

We chose the hotel as we wanted a pool with a kids area - and there is an large shallow area that our children had a blast in and on. We had just spent 6 nights out in a wonderful house on the beach in the Chicxiclub area (near Progresso) which was amazing but quite secluded and our children tired... more

I checked out this hotel after being unhappy with our original hotel (Casa Lucia). We ended up choosing the Hyatt (see that review). The Fiesta American is on par with the standard rooms at the Hyatt, that is to stay maybe a 3-star hotel (and I was shown an "executive level" room at the Fiesta which had its own dedicated... more

If you loose your US passport while in the Yucatan this is the place to stay! The US Consulate is just a block away. We were pleasantly surprised at this beautiful hotel. While for Mexico standards this is a 5 star establishment, be aware it is not an American 5 star facility. None the less the staff was as accomodating... more

very glitzy, huge hotel with fabulous lobby and handy mall underneath. Rooms could use updating of fixtures and fittings, esp the AC which does not work very well at all, and the bathrooms, though they are large and pleasant. Pool is not appealing-looking. Restaurants are mixed, bar is great. The staff are not good with the details of service here;... more

Mixture of good and bad here. Good points: breakfast, very quick elevators, friendly staff. Nice lobby. Nice bathroom though a little small even in the suites. Bad points: pool area is really noisy because of air conditioning units surrounding it - there is no way you could just lie by the pool and chill out. We had a suite which... more

There were tens of fleas on the sheets and pillows. The management was extremely helpful and polite. They sent us to another room, and another room, and yet another room, only to find that fleas were a common problem of the entire hotel. We finally decided to stay in the room that seemed to have the least number of fleas.... more
