We stayed at Las Arecas for 5 days while we were house hunting. We had a very pleasant stay in the two room Sac Beh room upstairs. It was very quiet and the air conditioner worked great. Because we stayed 5 days we received a 15% discount. We had to wire via Western Union our full amount in advance which... more

Las Arecas is everything other people have commented: clean, well priced, a few blocks from the great plazas of Merida and not only that, but there is now wireless connection free for guests. I can also say that I felt that my belongings were 100% safe and did not worry about leaving my laptop in my room when I left.... more

Just returned from another visit to Merida and Las Arecas. I stayed 8 nights this time, in the Arecas Room once again. Mauro still offers a great value, a clean and comfortable place to stay, and a healthy breakfast to start the day. That's all I am looking for, and Las Arecas delivers. If you want a real Yucatan experience... more

Las Arecas is great, and Mauro Ruiz is a very honest, kind man. The accomodations are very basic, but it's very clean, and the location is great for exploring Merida. Breakfast is included every morning: fruit, juice, and coffee, very basic, no protein. We were very happy there, and would definitely stay there again. We were supposed to stay there... more

I heard about Las Arecas Bed and Board thru trip advisor. I was looking for a place that would be different than the Big Chain hotels that you find in every other city. I read the reviews from other guests, and the one thing that stood out was the quality of the service at Las Arecas. It was getting better... more

My wife and I stayed a week in the Ta'an-Kab Room. We instantly felt at home in the simple clean accommodations and with the warm and helpful hosts Mauro, Raul, and Pepe. Born in Mexico but raised in Los Angeles California, Las Arecas brought back fond and sweet memory's of my summer vacations as a youth and my stays at... more

I thought that it was just me and my inexperience at planning foreign travel but after reading several of the recent reviews I feel compelled to add my story. Earlier this spring I was planning a trip to Merida. I had heard great things about Arecas and was excited about staying there. I tried to reach the hotel for over... more

I had been to the beautiful city of Merida twice in the past, both times with a friend who spoke Spanish and "led the way." This time I was on my own. I thank Las Arecas and it's wonderful hosts, Mauro, Raul and Pepe, for making a foreign city seem like home. I cannot imagine staying at a hotel where... more

In addition to my husband's comments, I'd like to add that we were intending to visit Merida again this fall and we are no longer considering Las Arecas--in spite of everyone else's glowing comments and the fact that it seems to fit exactly what we look for in a hotel/B&B. In the future, when someone requests prepayment via Western Union,... more

Clearly everyone loves this establishment. I wanted to stay during my visit to Merida and so made a reservation with Mauro, the owner, and forwarded him a 50% cash deposit (no credit cards) for the room via Western Union. One week prior to my visit I was informed that I was to have surgery and must cancel my trip. I... more
