Hi: I want to let people know about a really good little hotel in Merida. Los Arecas is a restored colonial home with all that implies. High beamed ceilings, tile floors, courtyard and all. Because of the thick walls of the building the noises of the busy street of the centro historico of Merida are almost completely eliminated. I slept... more

Walking into Las Arecas felt warm and inviting. A great place to call home while spending time in Merida. And if you are lucky you'll get greeted by Mara, the smiling husky as well as the stripy kitties that mill about. Mauro if a wonderful host. When you visit, be sure to have dinner at La Casa de Frida in... more

We stayed at Las Arecas in January for six days. There are loads of places to stay in Merida from hostels to grand hotels. Las Arecas was easy to deal with the reservation on-line and when we got there we were very pleased. We actually had two rooms. One was a sitting room that could have been a kitchen also... more

Our family group of 9 people wanted to spend Christmas and New Years in Merida, and we knew exactly where to stay! My husband and I had stayed in Las Arecas the previous winter and wanted to share Las Arecas with our family. In March we made Christmas/New Years reservations for all 4 of Mauro's rooms. We wired our deposit... more

Las Arecas is a small place close to central Merida. We had everything we wanted, a quiet room, a small courtyard to ourselves, and genial hosts. We were walking distance from the bus station, markets, and the attractions of central Merida. According to their website Las Arecas is a B & B but we were warned ahead of time that... more

We stayed at Las Arecas for 11 days over the Christmas holiday, and we had a wonderful experience. Mauro and his staff were welcoming and helpful, doing everything from arranging taxis to helping my father find a place that sold crutches after he sprained his ankle. The rooms were comfortable and clean, and the two courtyards were beautiful with lovely... more

This small guest house, just 4 blocks off the Zocalo, is in a 200 year old house. The accommodations are simple, but clean and adequate. The air conditioning worked perfectly, so no problems with the heat. The service is the best; the hosts go out of their way to make one feel welcome and to provide extra services, such as... more

We just returned from a seven day stay at Las Arecas and would highly recommend this guest house to anyone traveling in the area. The location is ideal. It's close to the main plaza and an easy walking distance to many other sights and restaurants. The owners were very friendly and helpful, and the Taan Kaab room was private with... more

We spent a week at this tidy, charming, and ideally located B&B. We didn't want to leave for our next destination! It was a pleasure to meet all of the hosts. Raul, who met us despite our late arrival, is an "old-world" gentlemen--welcoming, charming, and knowledgeable about the city and local sites (Uxmal in particular). Mauro is an incredibly gracious... more

Las Arecas is a wonderful Merida experience. Lots of charm and character. The innkeepers Mauro and Raul are very pleasant and helpful yet they respect your privacy. Good coffee and fresh fruit every morning. Very inexpensive. I highly recommend Las Arecas more
