I had been to the beautiful city of Merida twice in the past, both times with a friend who spoke Spanish and "led the way." This time I was on my own. I thank Las Arecas and it's wonderful hosts, Mauro, Raul and Pepe, for making a foreign city seem like home. I cannot imagine staying at a hotel where... more

In addition to my husband's comments, I'd like to add that we were intending to visit Merida again this fall and we are no longer considering Las Arecas--in spite of everyone else's glowing comments and the fact that it seems to fit exactly what we look for in a hotel/B&B. In the future, when someone requests prepayment via Western Union,... more

Clearly everyone loves this establishment. I wanted to stay during my visit to Merida and so made a reservation with Mauro, the owner, and forwarded him a 50% cash deposit (no credit cards) for the room via Western Union. One week prior to my visit I was informed that I was to have surgery and must cancel my trip. I... more

I stayed at Las Arecas on 3 separate occasions through out Nov.2006. Each time I returned it was like coming home. Mauro and Raul are so friendly and helpfull. The house is well located and the rooms spacious, more like staying in a real Mexican home than an impersonal hotel. Terrific spot for an authentic experience. KMD Brooklyn, NY more

Travelling independently at the end of January 2007 I arrived in Merida after easily booking the Arecas room to be met by Raul who is very helpful and friendly intending to stay two nights but ended staying five nights. Las Arecas B & B is spotless with a lovely court yard with fountain court yard where you can have breakfast... more

Wonderful place. Mauro, the owner, was incredibly helpful to me when the airlines lost my bags, making numerous calls on my behalf. Morning coffee and fresh-orange juice are served by the ever-elegant Raul, who speaks beautiful English. Rooms are clean, simple, quiet. Lovely interior courtyard. I will most definitely go back. more

We stayed with the guys at Las Arecas over New Years' week 2007 and have the highest regard for their operation -- if you can call it that. They run the place like you've all been invited to stay in guestrooms in their house. No swanky furniture, appliances, electronics, etc., just the basics for comfort in a handsome colonial style.... more

We arrived at the guest house and were greeted at the door by Raul a very gracious host and by now a dear friend. Mauro was immediately behind him and we were whisked into the interior courtyard of this wonderful place. We were surrounded by a lush feel of plant life and hominess. Mauro showed us to our first room... more

We spent a week in Merida over Christmas and found it to be a great central place for sightseeing. Las Arecas (bed and breakfast) was a great home base and a good price. Mauro speaks very limited English but was always willing to help. Raul's English is very good, and we had great fun chatting with him - and -... more

Las Arecas wasn't our first choice when booking for a Merida vacation but, since we've stayed there for 5 days, we'd do it again. Mauro Ruiz, the owner, speaks a little English and is very helpful. Raoul, his helper, speaks many languages, including fluent English; he's a major resource. The room we stayed in (first floor rear) has a small... more
