The sickness going around The Reef was a real thing. A previous review mentioned that the staff blamed it on going into town. No way! Our group of 15 family members had 8 of us getting chills, throwing up, having diarrhea, and stuck in bed for a day or two during our 5 days there. None of us went into... more

For everyone that has gotten sick, one of my family members did as well, it is from eating the fruit. She didn't like the buffet food, so she ate the whole time was fruit, and she deifinately paid for it, it caused a bacterial infection in the intestines, nothing life threatning or anything, just has to run its course. The... more

Unfortunately we read these reviews after our plans were already set. Upon arriving at the resort, we used hand sanitizers before and after eating, drank bottled water, brushed with it, etc. and like all the other reviews say, our entire group of 6 became violently ill and bed-ridden after two days at the resort. It starts with stomach cramping followed... more

We came back from the Reef Playacar on Friday nite. This is a nice size resort that's not crowded. The rooms are simple and clean, if you're looking for a luxury resort, this is not for you. The only really bad thing I have to say about this resort is the buffet food, I personally didn't care for it, but... more

I just want to start off by saying The Reef Playacar is the most beautiful resort I have been to. It is built within a preserved jungle, so walking through the resort you will see a natural cenote, iguanas, geckos, and cute squirrel/rabbit type animals that I can’t remember the name of. The beach is the best in the area... more

My girlfriend and I, along with another couple, stayed at The Reef from June 5th to June 13th. Upon arriving at the hotel, we checked in and IMMEDIATELY we were hounded by a "concierge". He was an American kid, early 20's named Brad/Brett/Brandon...something like that. Anyway, he wanted "just 30 minutes of our time" to try to push trips/timeshares etc... more

When we arrived for a one week stay we were promptly put back in a taxi to be sent to a (superior) sister hotel as there was a problem with our room. The sister hotel immediately upgraded us to the Royal across the road, which turned out to be an amazing experience. When we returned we were shown to an... more

The hotel was smaller and moving from room to pool or lobby was very nice. The hotel could have been better. Entertainment was cancelled throughout our stay without warning to guests. If you make reservations at one of the specialty restaurants (only one was open during our stay) be on time, we were late by a very few minutes and... more

I stayed at the Reef with my girlfriend at the end of May. We were there for 1 week and had nothing bad to say about the hotel. We wanted to make sure that there was at least one good review of the hotel on here; it really does deserve it. First, the hotel is a great value for what... more
