Us: We're pretty seasoned travelers (Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, India, Australia, NZ, FIji Central America etc). Usually backpacking, but recently brought it up a level for our honeymoon. Sunset Fishermans: Were stopped in the airport by people flogging 'tours' of Sunset Fishermans Resort. Knew it was a scam of sorts, but listened to the schtick, and figured we could use the... more

One of the wonderful things about TA is that everyone can express their personal preferences. It can be confusing when some posters just can't tolerate or respect the opinions or preferences of others, or feel that their view is the only correct one. We travel a few times each year, and try to post a review after each trip. I... more

My family and I have just returned from the most relaxing, breathtaking, holiday we have ever had. The place we stayed was "sunset Fisherman Resort., and it can only be described as Paradise. We have two children aged 7 & 8, and I would recommend this resort to anyone with young children. It is so safe. The beach is about... more

First, upon arrival when all you really want is a shower, you are made to stay in the lobby for 10 minutes, then you are shown to a dining area where you wait another 20. Then, immediately, comes the sales pitch...upgrade to this or buy that. You MUST have the meal plan...anything they can sell you. The meal plan is... more

I took my family and a sister in law to the resort on June 28th and we stayed for a week. We had bought a week during the previous November and when I came home I read all the horror stories that have been spread by five or six people on several web sites. Despite pre trip misgivings, I am... more

I just felt wanted to say that not all the reviews regarding the timeshares online is accurate. I had purchased a timeshare at Sunset, but decided to cancel largely b/c of the enormous amount of bad press that Sunset has online. I was expecting a grueling 6 mos battle to get my money back. Surprisingly, Sunset agreed to refund my... more

We stayed at the Fisherman from June 28 - July 6 2008. There were 4 of us; myself, my wife, and our niece and nephew (ages 10 and 12). We stayed in a studio room with a very nice view of the Caribbean. There was a small patio with chairs and a little hot tub. I hated to give the... more

In the overall the hotel was nice, clean, with good service & located in a convenient place (not too far from dowtown). The food compared to the big resorts was better because this is a small(ish) one so the attention is more personalized. Staff is most of the time friendly. However I had two bad experiences. The first one is... more

My husband and I travel frequently to Mexico and the Caribbean and have never dealt with such unprofessional staff as we unfortunately found at Sunset Fishermen. We were scammed out of $450 dollars for a fishing excursion booked through the resort, with no ability for recorse. Salesman Said Silva took no responsibility and refused to refund our money. These people... more

Obviously, we were a little uncertain about our visit to this resort based on previous reviews. We were (4 adults) very pleased with our stay. Marciel welcomed us when we arrived and took care of all our luggage. The check-in was easy. We paid our all-inclusive fees at the front desk and given wristbands. We were escorted to the oceanside... more
