Mandarin Oriental must be terribly embarrassed by this foray of theirs into the beach resort world--it just wasn't thought out well at all. The rooms are perfectly lovely, as are the Bulgari bath products, and the food was consistently good. But the resort itself? There's one totally unimpressive pool deck, with a freezing cold rectangular pool. In two days on... more

If you like having to call maintenance every time you use the bathroom, this is the hotel for you! Or if you want the maintenance crew to share a room with you the entire week, check out this resort! This is by far the worst Mandarin I have stayed at, besides the executive management-Patrick Finet-General Manager, and the Resident General... more

This hotel has surpassed all expectations we had!! We were celebrating our anniversary here and we were treated like royalty!!!! We got a free upgrade to Palafitos Premier room and received more than one complementary bottle of wine... it was amazing!! To sum up why I think this hotel was great here are some points: 1.) THE HOTEL-- this hotel... more

I recently spent 5 luxurious days at the Mandarin with a group of friends, and the hotel certainly lived up to my high expectations. The rooms were spacious and elegantly decorated, and I especially loved the huge bathtub on my terrace and the ultra-comfortable beds. The ground were also gorgeous, and I liked the way it was integrated into the... more

I stayed with my family of 2 little kids at the Mandarin Riviera Maya for four days. We had a regular room, with garden and outside hot tub. The room was ok allthough my 1 yr old son had to sleep in the bathroom! THe design and comfort of the room was great, everything you expect for paying $900 per... more

I will truly treasure the week I spent at the hotel celebrating my 40th birthday with my sisters. Being familiar with Mandarin Oriental's standards, I knew I would have a wonderful time, that the property would be beautiful and the service excellent. However, from beginning to end, everything about my time there exceeded my expectations. Although I enjoyed the beautiful... more

We stayed at the MO Riviera Maya during the peak New Years week in Jan ‘09. The first impression at reception was positive but quickly turned into suspiciousness when we were driven to our room: the buggy-journey just seemed endless. Soon we realized that the resort is vast, build of several villa- and two-storey bungalow-complexes alongside a narrow path that... more

After a number of days in an 'eco resort' we decided on a night of luxury. Zero complaints about the rooms and the public facilities - they are elegant, incredibly detailed and at times nearly perfect. We were well close to the beach, but i can understand people complaining about the mile trip to the beach from the upper rooms.... more

Second stay at this wonderful property. The rooms are generous, the staff very friendly, and the facilities top notch. The problems start with the hype. The property was only about 40% filled and if there were any more guests the staff would have a nervous breakdown dealing with everyone. This may be a Mandarin in name and pricing, but other... more
