I returned to Cabanas Copal in early May of 2011. I have stayed at Copal or its sister, Azulik, every year for twelve or thirteen years. I can't remember exactly. It remains one of my favorite places on Earth. This is coming from a Tour Director who travels the globe for a living. Copal/Azulik is where this professional traveler comes... More

Although Copal is undergoing changes, we found the cabañas to be much as we expected. Actually, some of the recent reviews are misleading. We panicked when we read what other travelers had written, but couldn't cancel our reservation at that point. When we got to Copal, we found that some things were closed - Copal's old reception and beach access... More

On the advice of some friends who had been visiting Tulum and staying at Copal for the past few years, we booked a room at Cabanas Copal for 3/10-3/14; 2 nights in the casita and 2 nights in an ocean view cabana. Just prior to our trip, we received and email from the reservations manager indicating the resort had been... More

Kudos to the maid(s?) who did an excellent job. Apart from that, -> the food is getting worster (worst than worst, I actually don't have a qualitative to characterized how bad the food is. Eat at Papaya next door, same/cheaper price, better food, you can wait for your order on the beach mattresses), -> half of the staff shouldn't work... More

My girlfriend and I stayed in Copal for one night out of our 10 day tour of the Yucatan. We arrived in Tulum without a reservation and found Copal to be within our price range, plus we wanted to try out some cabanas. In total was stayed in 3 different cabana sites in Tulum; Copal was the roughest, but also... More

We stayed in a sea view king cabana which was indeed large and had a sea view, but this is not the best place to stay in Tulum. The cabanas look pretty tired and felt over-priced. The restaurant was very over-priced with average food and terrible service. The best thing about Copal is its location within a cluster of restaurants... More

Copal offers an online special for last minute bookings. We have stayed here 3 times booking 24 hours in advance to get 60% off for 3 night stays. Each time we have also extended our stay at reception the day before check out and have payed the same last minute rate. In high season this comes to $42 USD /... More

Beautiful point of view over the sea and beach. Cabanas are dirty, because the tached roof was falling down on the bed. We stayed in two cabanas (22 and 27), both had sewer air. No extra service, high prices. The owner is only interested in your money. More

For starters, almost all of the hotels in the Tulum hotel zone are somewhat rustic because of the development limitations (e.g. water limitations, electricity limitations, etc.) That said, here's the deal with Cabanas Copal: 1. The cabanas are huts. They have thatched roofs and walls made of narrow tree trunks. While some of the walls also have wire mesh reinforcement,... More
