We went to Cabins Retiro Maya in Tulum and our experience there was really good. We arrived at Cancun airport, where we rented a car to drive to Tulum. It's about one hour and a half from Cancun. The Cabins are an excellent opportunity to get away from your daily life. We had a great view from the ocean, just... more

Eco-friendly with great service, eco-chic rustic cabanas with great vegetarian food was what was promised at this Yoga Retreat that i attended a week ago from late march 2008 to early april 2008. A group of 18 of us attended a yoga retreat at this resort and all discovered it was a nightmare. Upon arrival, we were given instructions by... more

If you want a grass hut, poor service and very basic food you found it here! Ideal location and great guests made this an awesome trip but site brags about incredible food and service. Staff was good but management was abrasive. Considering the local market had great food available there was no reason we were offered beans and scrambled eggs... more

The setting is wonderful and the layout of the cabanas is inviting, but with so many other options along the beach be sure about what you're getting. Overall I liked the place but probably wouldn't stay there again. The rooms were sand covered which was a nice concept but you couldn't keep the bed clean, the beds left something to... more

We stayed for two nights at Retiro Maya in March 2008. It was supposed to be three nights, but the owner double-booked our prepaid room for the third night, and when she offered to return our money, we were glad to leave early. The beach is truly beautiful, but Retiro Maya's website does not paint an accurate picture of the... more

We paid $150 per night for no drinkable water in the room, no screens on the windows, no hot water, all the floors are sand covered on purpose...great for getting into bed and sleeping in sand. The staff was very confused about everything. Beautiful location but that is about the best we can say. more

Leave your blowdryer and laptop at home and relax! We stayed seven days in a cabana at Retiro Maya. We chose Tulum because it was less tourist-y. If we wanted to be surrounded by nothing but American culture and homogenous fellow tourists, we'd have just gone to Hawaii or Florida. Tulum is much more authentic while still being luxurious. We... more

The last review expresses a lot of our feelings about Retiro Maya. We were fortunate enough not to be robbed, but the owner's response doesn't surprise me; her interactions with us were defensive, borderline hostile. It sounds like it was a really rough week for her, a crisis every day, but don't take it out on the guests. I We... more

We stayed for 10 nights at Retiro Maya and it was our first time in Tulum. In our internet research we were astonished about the high prices for the beach cabanas (US$ 150) compared to other places like Asia where you pay for a similar quality US$ 40 or less. But that's Tulum. The Retiro Maya offers an interesting mix... more

The welcome here was cold and distance as was the answer to all inquiries, no matter how mild. The food was mediocre. Employee unhappiness was rampant. The chef quit. Others were looking for new jobs. It is one of the few hotels/cabanas without a night watchman. Two guests had items stolen from their cabanas including a high-end cell phone and... more
