After 27 years straight of going to Baja for fishing and just to relax..my idea of a great experience is to get away from all the tourist hubbub....so I go a bit north up the East Cape to Rancho Buena Vista, the original "Marlin Alley" fishing resort..which is still there much the same as it has been since 1952 when the likes of Bing Crosby, John Wayne, Dwight Eisenhower and others would fly in for some relaxation and world class fishing.
The Baja tourist boom hasn't hit this area yet, but it may eventually...for now, this little gem offers the same experience it has for 50+ years. It's not fancy...meals are served family style and are included in the price of the room...no phones or TV in the rooms, but cell service now works there (drat!). The best beach bar in the cape with plenty of local color...and you get to watch the sun rise over the Sea of Cortez every morning!
You still can't book a room on-line yet, but they do have a website for info...
