The Hotel Sands is the oldest hotel in Barra and it shows. The rooms were very bare bones and hadnt been remodeled in years. Ours didnt have air conditioning but in March it didnt matter. There was a ceiling fan and that was adequate. The bathroom was in poor condition but at least you could use it. The pool is... more

If your into experiencing real Mexican culture, and you think that those all-insclusive resorts are giant, boring "american islands," the Sands in Barra de Navidad is the perfect place to stay. Barra is such a fun, laid-back town with great people and lots of stuff to do. We stayed at the Sands in January...and we loved it! We called it... more

Stayed at the Sands for 3 days just before Christmas. Rooms $37 double. Check the room for view first. Location, lush garden, pool and view are all perfect. Friendly swimup bar. No food available. Rooms a little tired but old style comfort. Sailing boat crews seem to meet there for happy hour. Staff friendly. Secure parking lot (at night) with... more

We've stayed at the Sands on 4 separate occasions, 1998-2001, 3 times in March, once in January. Weather always pleasant (mid 70s-low 80s, cooling to 60s at night). This was the first hotel built in Barra. It sits on the lagoon to the east of the bay, with a fine view over the lagoon. Wonderful planted grounds. Great, generally well... more

There is an excellent weather mainly after November. Is a very calm place, its pool this very pleasant and has a view to the lagoon. There are many types of rooms to choose, someones have a view to the lagoon and others to the patio. In the happy hour of the pool, it was a good place; you can talk... more

All in all, it was a good place to stay. We got a good deal for the room. Weather was incredibly hot, and the fans in the rooms did not help at all. I too had my cd player stolen from my room which sucked, and was told that there was nothing they could do about it. It's a good... more

The place was basically fine. They have a nice pool - unfortunately it was very warm, but what can they do? The only problem was that I had a CD player stolen from my room. Also some friends *think* they had some money stolen from their room, but were not sure enough to complain about it. I complained and got... more
