Casa Chips is a great little seaside hotel in the center of Barra de Navidad, a small but charming seaside town. (Ask for Room #5, it is worth the extra fare.) The town comprises quiet cobblestone streets with interesting shops and a few good restaurants (Many don't accept credit cards, so be prepared.). Take a lagoon cruise for an interesting... more

Wonderful Sunsets, clean rooms, great beach. Stayed in Sky suite which is amazing with two decks to view the sunset. Whether using the kitchen en suite or eating below in the restaurant it's easy to dine well. Hospitable help that speaks english facilitated excursions to incredible beaches and little towns. Had to make reservations early for the holiday season but... more

We stayed in both of the front facing studios (#5 & #7) & enjoyed each of them. The rooms are spacious, the kitchens clean & well equipped with a large fridge for plenty of cold drinks. The top unit has the best views with several balconies. I would watch the surfers arriving in the morning & and enjoy the magnificent... more

We read reviews on Trip advisor and talked to friends who had been to Barra De Navidad. They suggested Casa Chips. I got in touch with the owner through the internet and was impressed with how quickly he responed to all my questions and needs. We booked Suite #6 and were very pleased with the room. It was spacious, clean... more

Stayed here last year and loved it. The room was great. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food and drink were plentiful and well prepared. Couldn't wait to come back. Oops!! Major changes in management and staff and it showed. Wait staff were generally indifferent and service was mediocre at best. The bar area had become a hangout for... more

Management response from

sad to hear how disappointed Mike the Bear was after spending time on the beach with the poor restaurant service. The restaurant is rented and managed independently from the hotel.Unfortunately as the owner I cannot guarantee its service of operation but I can influence their operation by passing on these comments. IAs the owner I am committed that our guests...

We come to Barra every year with a group of friends and usually stay at Hotel Barra de Navidad. Thought we should try something different for a change and choose Casa Chips. The oceanside rooms were beautiful and looked great at first but there were several problems that we were unhappy with. First, we had items stolen from our rooms... more

We just spent our third winter holiday at Chips. As always, staying right on the ocean and falling asleep to the waves is the best part. The hotel clean and centrally located to everything. A well equipped kitchen allows the option of not always eating out, though the proximity and quality of the local food is hard to resist. Beach... more

Please note that the following review is specifically for the room we were unfortunate enough to book - room #6. Also note that most other glowing reviews are for the two rooms that face the ocean. We were required to pay the full amount upfront for all three of the nights that we had planned on staying there. After we... more

We stayed at Casa Chips in Barra de Navidad at the tail end of November and early December 2006. It is a tiny hotel of 5 rooms. The two rooms facing the ocean (2nd and 3rd floors) have lovely LARGE balconies that run the width if the building and are equipped with tables, chairs and lounges and are set back... more
