I booked for my wife and I by phone and got a warm feeling about the place during the process. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted and shown to our comfortable room.
Dinner was served by a delightfully cheerful young lady and the good sign of locals also choosing to dine at the The Kelsey on a wet and windy evening was a promising sign of what was to follow. The food was well prepared and satisfactorily priced - we had good steaks from the Specials menu priced at £12.45. The wine list offered a reasonable selection all of which were not subject to the excessive mark-up so common in many chain hotels. A good South African Pinotage cost £12.95 and would have been around £5/£6 in my local supermarket. The ambience of the evening was very pleasant, the owners being gregarious, hard working and concerned to make the evening enjoyable.
The room and bed were comfortable and we slept well.
Breakfast was a nice experience with a well cooked traditional British offering...
