The peace and atmosphere of Fairburn Farm live up to its Scottish name. The added attraction of the water buffalo herd made it perfect. I enjoyed myself thoroughly and would highly recommend it to friends. The Cowichan Valley has its own charms--vineyards, restaurants, boating, biking and old quaint buildings. But the farm stands alone in its appeal. more

My wife and I recently spent 6 days attending a cooking school at Fairburn Farm. It was one of the best vacations we've ever taken! We were welcomed warmly by both Mara (the proprietor) and her assistant chef, Rosie. We were shown to our room, one of the two front bedrooms in the 100+ year old farmhouse, with a FANTASTIC... more

The Food Fairburn Farms is supposed to be a great local food oriented experience. Our first breakfast was granola and pancakes. On the second day it was granola and an omelet - that's it. Oh, there was some juice but it was bad! I read a previous review from '06 about a breakfast with fruits, sausage, vegetables - it sounded... more

Big old farmhouse with spacious, clean rooms. Bathrooms clearly have been re-done and were quite nice. Great view from our room. Very quiet and dark at night -- got a restful night's sleep. Breakfast cooked to order from local ingredients, yum. more

The Fairburn Farm is at the end of road. We were on our bikes, cycling VI, for 5 days, so the end of the road seemed, well endless. Once there, you enter an experience. We found the proprieter Mara and a young student intern from Italy, sitting on the lawn cutting off garlic stems recently plucked from the garden. THe... more

The Fairburn farm is some minutes away from the next town, it looks beautiful from the outside and is located in a really breath taking landscape. There were no other guests but still the host was quite busy. The room was really old-fashioned and the furniture looked like it was from the flea-market. Breakfast was really good. Everything was fresh,... more

I recently spent a week on Vancouver Island with a highlight of my vacation being my stay at lovely Fairbun Farm. It is a historic farm nestled in a fertile valleys surrounded by mountains. The farm is billed as a "culinary retreat" and it lived up to this promise. The chef/propriator Mara Jernigan, provides a delicious breakfast of local and... more

While the accommodation was acceptable and the setting lovely we found the hospitality very lacking. The farm owners have put a chef/proprietor in place, and we discovered none of the Canadian farm welcome which we had hoped for. The aim seemed rather to attract West Coast corporate types. We felt out of place, having just tumbled out of the back... more
