I spent a week at Bathurst Inlet Lodge in 1993 and it was just as terrific when I came back in 2007. There is no place like it anywhere else in the Arctic. Facilities are rustic, but considering where you are, they're excellent. Easy access to outstanding flowers, wildlife, birds, history, scenery, canoeing, rockhounding, etc. Great boat for venturing afield and great naturalist staff. Staying here is a cultural experience; the lodge is set in the middle of one of the few still-functioning Inuit villages anywhere; no drugs, no alcohol. Incredibly isolated; virtually nobody comes to this area except the Inuit who live here and the tourists who stay at the lodge. The lodge only accepts about 100 visitors during its five-week season. The historic and archeologic resource is sitting out in the open, untouched by vandals or grave robbers. This is the real thing.
