I found the Algonquin through a Lonely Planet guidebook, which I normally trust. But I was sorely disappointed by the hotel. It is a HOSTEL, plain and simple, despite offering private rooms (ours had a private bath, we "splurged" for that). Best place if all you want is a shower and a bed for notmuch. I have stayed here a few times over the past few years and will be back. Staff are friendly, good people. I think that the Algonquin is just perfect for the cost. The staff is friendly and the owners are always cheerful, and the beer is cheap ( so my boyfriend says ). Personally I would hate to see them sell the place. more
The Algonquin Hotel is situated in the heart of the city. It is located in one of the best spots in Sault Ste. Marie. I have stayed here on many occasions and found it to be just what I needed.
