Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Property very tired and in need of updating. Carpet in room I was in stained and dirty. Furnishings stained. Shower stall EXTREMELY small. This is not a B&B. No breakfast on offer. Sheets clean and bed firm. They want longer term bookings and are not interested in bookings for one or two nights. Room 3 directly on busy street with lots of traffic noise 24/7. I would not recommend.

I have been living there for a whole week. Really, the worst hostel that I ever have seen in my life. Stuff ( one old man who never smiles) answered on my question about how the front door opens like "Oh, what a problem you are for me". Sorry, what?! Air conditioner in my room worked by itself. So it was cold like a hell or hot any time. Simlpy, don't do that for yourself.

We spent four nights at Jarvis House on a recent summer getaway to Toronto. The good: Excellent location and unbeatable price (about $115 US per night, including parking, for a room with king bed and adjoining bathroom). If you're okay climbing two steep, narrow stairways, Room 9 on the third floor was exceptionally quiet as it faces the back and does not share common walls with other guest rooms. Now the bad: This is NOT a hotel. The only staff we ever saw was an inept young man sent over to let us in on a Saturday afternoon. No maid service, of course, but a handwritten sign pinned to the bedsheet that serves as a door to the basement linen closet admonishes guests NOT to take extra bedding or towels. It's also NOT a B&B. Although some other commenters praised the morning coffee, there was no food service offered. Your first vision upon entering is a filthy, stained carpet on the stairs. Bring your own soap and shampoo. The cheap plastic venetian blinds did little to keep out the morning sunshine. The king bed was lumpy. Wireless internet was sporadic. So, if you're not too picky about accommodations, shopping for a bargain in central Toronto, and not planning to spend much time in your room, Jarvis House might be ideal, but we won't stay there again.

At check-in, we find out they are no longer serving breakfast (huh?) You're listed as a B&B... We literally took down the shower curtain - it was covered in mold. A/C not blowing cold air. Couldn't find a roll of toilet paper to save our lives, nor the hostess, so we bought our own at the convenience store down the street. Filthy and unattended.

A Little dusting goes a long way. we stayed in this for one night and had an "upgraded" room. While it was spacious it was dirty and old. the carpet should have been replaced years ago and didnt seem as though it had been Vacuumed in months. the window sills and door frames had a thick coating of dust on them and the furniture was stained. I know old buildings can have the odd spider here and there however i witnessed at least 3 house centipedes crawing near the bed and in the shower. I would not stay here again while there are other chain hotels near by.

Stayed for a long weekend, 3 nights. The hostess was nice and the place looked clean outside of the rooms. We had a small room on the 2nd floor and a tiny bathroom. Some recepticals in the room didn't work. The carpet was dirty and needs replacing in the rooms. The decor was very old fashioned. We stayed 3 nights and our room was not cleaned once, towels were old and ripped and also never refreshed, and the small garbage can was never emptied, and only 1 roll of toilet paper. I had to go down to the basement and ask for more towels and toilet paper. I told them our towels were used and ripped after 2 days, but nobody did anything about it for the last night. The price was decent, but the place itself is in need of some refreshing and updating. The only plusses were it was close to everything downtown and the subway and offered offstreet parking. I don't think I would stay here again though.

The room was nice and clean. The room's air-conditioning wasn't working too well, but still nice. The breakfast came with white bread, peanut butter and jam, no fruit or yogurt and there was eggs and a wiener that they called a "sausage" no bacon or ham. The coffee was really good and the orange juice good; otherwise, the place was a great downtown location. The owner was lovely and welcoming.

We were very disappointed in the Jarvis House. I have stayed at many B&Bs that were 'old and quaint', this one is just old and run down. The rooms were decently clean but very musty and dingy feeling. Room 11 on the top floor had one window that was so small and the bottom half of it has an old dilapidated a/c in it. I'm sure we could not have gotten out in an emergency There was a dirty towel on the floor in the main entry for wiping feet that was never removed or changed while we were there. There were not bathroom toiletries aside from a tiny bar of soap and very small bath towels. The location was good and there was wifi in the rooms but the tvs were about 30 years old and so tiny it was difficult to see them from across the room. They mention in the review that even though it is on a busy street the rome are airtight and very quiet....NOT AT ALL!! Road noise in most of the night in the room at the front of the house and also very noisy in the from at the back of the house. We did not stay for breakfast as the "dining room" was just as dingy. WE saw the lady that runs the house on arrival but then not again, even at check out. All in all....false advertising really!!
