This is actually a retirement residence, where they rent out spare rooms to students and guests.
The positives:
The room I stayed in was quite spacious and comfortable, and had all the usual features of a two-star or three-star hotel room. There was even a mini-fridge in the room. But it is basically budget accommodation for those who want a private room but without all the luxuries of a proper hotel. I personally thought they offered rooms at quite affordable prices (e.g. $270 for 4 nights for a solo traveler).
The security of this hostel is quite good. There are CCTVs on each floor. And you have to buzz the reception before you can enter the building - meaning they screen who they allow into the building.
