LIKED: I stayed here for a long weekend and I thought this was a great place to stay. I found the place mostly clean and found people cleaning/doing laundry throughout my stay. It was definitely not cramped or anything. The bathrooms were just right (much like community bathrooms in a college dormitory. The kitchen was great for conversation, had 2... more

My friend and I returned home with TONS of bed bug bites on our bodies. After researching reviews (which I definitely should have done prior to visiting Montreal) I see that several other people have had this unpleasant experience as well. I have now been worrying constantly about whether or not I have brought them into my home and even... more

I've stayed at some of the worst spots for bed bugs around the world, such as in Prague, Hong Kong and Bangkok. But this hostel has by far the worst problem with bed bugs. I spent the whole night scratching myself to blood because of them. I managed to have maybe 2h of sleep. So, even though it is one... more

After having stayed in an assortment of hostels and efficiencies from Amsterdam to West Indies, I felt I had seen everything... Then I stayed at Le Sous-bois. The hostel is a microcosm of the city of Montreal... Quaint, charming, and full of character. Albeit, the "gypsy caravans" aren't ideal for winter habitation (we had a near empty bottle of water... more

My partner and I visited Montreal with a single friend, so chose le Sous-bois because we liked the idea of the traveller caravans for us, and it meant our friend who was travelling alone could stay in a dorm. All three of us were disappointed - this place is dreadful. You enter down a side alley, into what looks like... more

We booked a double room with a private bathroom the hostel offered in mid July. That room just did not exist (in many countries that alone would be considered a fraud). We were given a double room with a shared bathroom instead. The room was in the basement and did not have windows or ventilation whatsoever. It had wood on... more

I've never had bed bugs before but i stayed at sous bois before we returned home after a 7 month global trip, bug free. I read the reviews here after i'd booked the room so we went. For the first 2 nights we stayed in the hostel gypsy caravan and it was ok, i figured bugs couldn't live on an... more

Le Sous Bois (hostel) and Le Guilleret (bed and breakfast) are owned by the same family. I called Le Guilleret to book a room and found that there was no availability. They steered me toward a private room in the hostel, which is adjacent. The room cost $60 + tax per night. I think this is expensive for what I... more

Stayed at Le Sous-bois as part of a school trip of 12 students to Montreal for one night/two days. The hostel is behind a bed-and-breakfast and made of a large room with wooden bunk beds. We slept on air mattresses; sheets and pillows were provided. I didn't personally observe bed bugs but another traveller in our group found a single... more

Yes, this place has bedbugs. Even if it didn't, I would not recommend this hostel. The inside is basically a big room with bunks, kitchen, and common areas all grouped together. It is very noisy, and you can't just close a door because there aren't any. If you like to sleep before 3 A.M., this is not the place for... more
