This was our second time staying at Karatta Lodge and we loved it just as much this time. My husband's father was a lighthouse keeper there in the early 50's and lived in that same house. Last time we went was 12 years ago, but we stayed again this time specifically to take our 9 year old daughter. We had... More

The cottages are large and comfortable although a little dated. All basic facilites were available however. The cottages are a reasonable walk from Admiral's arch and the wonderful sea lions (or seals) and a short walk from the light house although no tours are given. It is a long way from anywhere and it is essential you bring your supplies... More

Perfect balance of simplicity and comfort. Excellent beds and all you need in the kitchen. Wallabies close by and seals a stroll away. Now that traffic to Admiral's Arch bypasses the cottages you really feel away from it all.

We stayed in Karratta Cottage for 2 nights with our young children and had a wonderful time. The cottage was immaculately maintained, beautifully furnished in keeping with the heritage feel and spacious. The shower/toilet facilities were fairly basic but clean. The kids were up at sunrise and we were able to walk down and around the lighthouse and Admirals Arch... More

What a fantastic experience staying in one of the three sandstone cottages originally built for the lighthouse keepers of Cape du Couedic and their families. The cottages are spacious with 3 bedrooms, living room with a gas fireplace and a spacious kitchen. The accommodation is relatively simple but it's great to stay somewhere with history (be sure to read about... More

Stayed in a cottage for 5 nights and had a great time. Facilities are pretty basic but it's clean, beds are good and the cottages are full of history. Location is great as you can walk to the arch and drive to the rocks after 5pm, once everyone has left the park. There is also some interesting reading on how... More

Not fancy at all but comfortable and very quiet. We were 3 adult couples and really enjoyed the house and surroundings. The beds are comfortable, the bathroom and kitchen are basic but have what you need. Modern really compared to what the original occupants had! The scenery which is a nice walk away or drive if you like is breathtaking.... More

This was our second KI lighthouse accommodation and the accommodation was a little anticlimactic after Cape Willoughby. The buildings themselves are classic South Australian stone structures with wide verandahs and spacious rooms, however the setting and atmosphere of the cottage are rather bleak and the house was quite dark and gloomy inside (small windows etc.) and had a more depressing... Dear fitzrovians, It’s great that you were able to experience the very special character of all three lightstations on Kangaroo Island! We are of course sorry to hear that the ambience of your lighthouse keeper’s cottage at Cape du Couedic did not appeal to you as much as Cape Borda or Cape Willoughby. However, we’re pleased that you enjoyed being... More

I truly hate to be the first to not have loved this place, but unfortunately our expectations were unmet. First, the bad: We were initially excited about ‘staying at a lighthouse’. Unfortunately, the magic of the lighthouses just didn’t translate to the cabins themselves. There was nothing uniquely special about them. Nice in their own right, but not unique. The... More

Dear pjsid, We’re delighted to hear how much you enjoyed Cape du Couedic’s stunning location and magnificent coastal scenery! Of course we are also disappointed that your stay was not all that you had hoped it would be. The coastal environment does not support the taller gums and encounters with koalas are therefore more likely when exploring other areas of... More

The lighthouse keepers cottages are much more than just a place to sleep, a base for exploring the magnificent Flinders Chase National Park. Those with an imagination and those who remember the recent past will love the stories of the lives of the lighthouse keepers who lived in this rugged and isolated location. Even my technology addicted children began to... More

Dear Zinta H, We’re so pleased that you found your stay at Cape du Couedic to be such a special experience and, as you say, not just a place to sleep! Cape du Couedic is certainly an ideal place to escape from the distractions of technology and reconnect with history and nature. As you have found, it is also a... More
