Having discovered Brownber Hall as a convenient stopover point from the M6 on long journeys between England and Scotland, I now enjoy the mini-breaks here as true little holidays. The location and views are wonderful. My dog and I appreciate lovely walks straight from the door - including Smardale Gill nature reserve along a disused railway track to the impressive... More

As everyone has eulogised about Hilary's cakes and welcome, will not reiterate. We opted for a better room with a view and it was a joy on the first morning to see red squirrels scampering around the garden beneath us and also to watch the antics of the lambs in the fields. Usually I do not have scrambled eggs for... More

The view from the bedroom was amazing - I had to drag myself away. The room was lovely, the shower was powerful and welcoming after a hard day. Breakfast was excellent - the welcome from the manager was lovely - even though they do not do evening meals she gave us a recommendation which lived up to the rating she... More

We stayed one night in the superior room which had amazing views over the fells. The house is surrounded by a feeling of tranquility and Hilary was so kind to provide cake and coffee for us on arrival. We enjoyed wine on the Terrace so relaxing . Wonderful breakfast the next day with Clannad as background music which added to... More

A wonderful relaxing place to stay & to be able to take your dogs too! A really comfortable warm room, beautiful views to wake up to. Lots of places to exercise the dogs. This really is a lovely place to stay. We were made to feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Usually most dog friendly hotels are... More

Visited last year and loved it so much we returned. I didn't think it could be improved upon, how I was wrong. Decorated bedroom, new bathroom, superb weather, fantastic views, pot of tea and homemade cake on arrival and still the BEST scrambled egg I have ever had. Thank you Hilary for your hospitality and recommendations. Visited the nearby Kendal... More

Absolutely fabulous! Stunning weather, beautiful views and superb walks. And the room that we had stayed in last year had been beautifully re-decorated! Thank you Hilary and Andrew, we'll be back. Nicola and Johnny McGlynn

I stayed at Brownber hall on Sat 16th February for one night only, what a pity I couldn't stay longer. The weather was starting to look really good the Sunday morning that I left but even on Sat. evening it was fairly mild. The house itself was beautiful, very clean and organised. The room was good with an excellent en-suite... More
