Monkey Hostel was one of the very worst hostels I have stayed in. The paint was peeling off the walls, the beds were sagging, the linen stained and there were fleas in our room. After a few hours there (and more than a few flea bites) we decided to leave. The whole hostel itself was rather dirty and unkempt. The... More

I booked into this hostel for a week and was very disappointed. Its location is one of the best and thats about it. It adverises with breakfast included, it is not included. Actually it is very pathetic, the kitchen is smaller than the shower/toilet and thats small. The communal area is the roof with 2 tables and 6 broken chairs.... More

Amazing location! Right on the main square. No brekky unfortunately and the kitchen was fairly basic. Only one bathroom that could do with a bit of upkeep but it was clean enough. The staff were businesslike, not welcoming but not rude and would assist you when asked. The fridge is available for use but kept locked so you have to... More

I dont know why we went there in the first place. The room got so hot and humid that your only choice is to either open a window and risk letting mosquitoes in or open your door and risk getting your stuff stolen. In the end we left the next day in a hurry that we left our universal adapter... More

Read the review of jellyjillbean from 14 March 2012. The same thing happened to us. As this hostel was recommended in the Lonely Planet we wanted to go there. The taxi driver stopped in front of the right building. A man told as then that the hostel is now around the corner. The location and the price is still perfect... More

We expected a real backpacker's hostel with a good vibe, other travellers and clean, basic ammenities... we got a empty, dirty hostel with a tiny kitchen, ants crawling over everything and a non-working cooking fire. Staff not interested or helpful. It is located in the town center, but there is not much to see or do. We intended on staying... More

Not a great choice. The best part about this hostel is the location. But for us the room was expensive, the beds we terrible, the ceiling fan was busted and the kitchen was disgusting. I've heard rumors you can pitch a tent on the roof, which would be a better option than a room.

I read that monkey hostel was a good option in my Rough Guide to Mexico. They probably didnt actually check it out because it didnt seem to match their description. The "dorm" was the size of a normal double room, very cramped. Luckily I was the only one their so I wasnt bothered. But when i returned later that evening,... More

I barely ever write reviews but I thought this place justified one. My two friends and I arrived in Campeche and told the taxi to take us to Monkey Hostel. The description of the hostel in the Lonely Planet sounded great. The taxi takes us to a door above it is a sign for Monkey Hostel. Upon entering the hostel... More

Given Lonely Planet's recommendation, and the standard of other many Mexican hostels (which have been great), we were very disappointed in this hostel. The bathrooms aren't clean, with cockroaches and no hot water, but the kitchen was fine. Also, the dorms have a shared balcony with doors that don't lock. The wifi didn't really work, and was slow when it... More
