We recently had a family meal at 'The Bedford Arms Hotel' to celebrate my parents 50th Wedding Anniversary on a recent Saturday evening. As there was eleven of us dining, pre-orders were recommended. The menu provided included at least 10 starters, 10 main courses and plenty of desserts, and was very varied in choice. The food we received was excellent,... More

Five of us booked for lunch at the Bedford Arms recently. Although the gardens are pretty and the public rooms comfortable, the lunch was a disappointment. The staff seemed distracted and inattentive, and were absent from the bar much of the time. The menu was unexciting and the food, when it came, mediocre. We came away feeling underwhelmed by the... What can I say? A lovely hotel. Staff welcoming and friendly. The bedroom was in what looks like may have been stables at one point. The room was immaculately clean and well decorated with possibly the biggest, most comfortable bed we've slept in. The breakfast was lovely. The only minor criticism was hat while in the shower the water wasn't... More

This is a lovely hotel in a very pretty setting, we got married here in 2010 in the oak panelled restaurant, it was a wonderful day in a place full of character, ideal for a small intimate wedding with the bonus of adding a marquee if wanted which we did, it gave quests the option of moving around. The staff... More

Beautiful building and great location. The restaurant was closed for a private function so we had to eat in the bar area - not a problem. Food was good quality and a high standard - thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We had the Lady Chandos room - details on Bookings.com stated all classic double rooms are 16 sq mtrs this room... More

We arrived to have a bite of lunch whilst waiting for Chenies Manor to open and went into the bar to find a table. One member of staff rushing about serving drinks for a large party in an adjoining room and another also very busy. We managed to get the OK to sit at an empty table and waited for... More

Better than average, not worth going out of your way for but a charming diversion if you happen to be passing. Service and hospitality of the staff in the bar and restaurant was excellent. Good location for beautiful Chiltern country walking.

The hotel is set in beautiful grounds in a quite but easy to get to country lane only 5 mins drive from the M25 at Chorleywood. The restaurant features a huge fireplace with oak panelled walls and is not overcrowded with tables. Four of us ate here on a Monday lunchtime. We all had separate starters which are good and... The Bedford is a hotel I know well through my visits to the area, the cuisine is excellent, my business customers have always enjoyed dining here sometimes on very wobbly tables ! My parents would meet here during WW2. My father was based at a nearby RAF airdrome. I decided to take my mother to this hotel a few months... More

My husband and I stayed at the Bedford arms for a long weekend. The hotel staff were very friendly, the food worthy of the awards and the accommodation was great (large king sized bed, plenty of room, walk in wardrobe. Arthur, who owns the hotel is 84 and still actively working. Thanks all for a lovely stay.

The Bedford Arms Hotel is situated in the village of Chenies. The Village was known as Isenhampstead until the middle of the 13th century, when it became known as Chenies from the Cheyne family who occupied the Manor until the 16th century. The hotel building dates for the most part from 1842. It was converted from a house to a hotel in the 1930's and was a small eating house and bar rather than a hotel. In 1957 the restaurant was moved to it's current position. The hotel was frequently used by the Russel family who later acquired Woburn Abbey. There are eighteen bedrooms, ten of which are individually designed and decorated in a traditional style and eight new contemporary designed bedrooms. There are two four-poster suites one with a Jacuzzi, sixteen double bedrooms including one purpose built disabled bedroom. Twin and family rooms and also a cot is available on request. The majority of bedrooms have wonderful views of either the hotel gardens or the Chiltern countryside.Room Service is available during breakfast, lunchtime and dinner. ... more   less
