Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I had a voucher for Spot in the Woods which I was really excited to use. However I was disappointed to discover that by the time we booked the restaurant, bar and B&B service had ended. Without these it was a very weird, unwelcoming experience. No atmosphere. The places feels uninviting and unloved. It labels itself as a self catering hut. But in reality there is not enough space or utensils (oven, microwave etc) for self catering.

The Spot in the Woods is an amazing setting within walking distance of amazing trails within the New Forest. As terms of accommdation, the property was very clean and the staff were really attentive. Every aspect of our trip was taken care of by Dan and his team, and nothing was too much trouble. I would strongly recommend a stay at this hotel. In addition to regular rooms, it also holds 5 Shepherds huts - these are located on the property but are standalone making for a niche experience.

We had a lovely 1 night stay in The Spot in the Woods, it is a beautifully quiet area and the staff were incredibly helpful. The bed was huge and very comfy and the shower was amazing. We had our own balcony which was a welcome surprise. The restaurant wasn't open for dinner but the bar was so we sat outside and had a drink before wondering down the road to the local pub The Gamekeeper. We had a wonderful breakfast in the morning and went for a lovely walk in the local woods. We would definitely stay here again!

It's a definite 5 out of 5 for the team that was working during our stay. Tyrone could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Nick, Casey, Toby and the wonderful breakfast ladies made the right start to the day. The food was delicious and the service friendly and efficient. The hotel was just outside Lyndhurst in a woodland setting. The hotel was clean, tidy with nice decor. Our room was spacious, comfortable and clean with lovely toiletries. However, the room did seem a bit tired in places and could do with a little TLC. Our comments were passed on to the reception team on checking out.

We had stayed here in the Hotel's previous guise - Terravina - and I am afraid left disappointed that previous experiences were not matched. On arrival we felt there were none of the friendliness and cosiness of the past. It did not help that the heating in the corridor and our room was off - meaning a literally cold welcome. Room and bathroom seemed a little tired. Breakfast was very good though.

Good day, Baronsboy, Thank you for taking the time to submit a review regarding your experience. I'm sorry to hear that your recent stay didn't measure up to your previous experiences with us. I am surprised you felt that the hotel was lacking "friendliness and cosiness", as this isn't our usual feedback, however if you would like to reach out on dutymanager@spotinthewoods.co.uk, I'd be more than happy to discuss your review. Best Regards Dan

I would just like to thank the staff at the hotel for making a surprise stay for my wife’s milestone birth a memorable one. After a busy week of organising a surprise party this was a very welcome break. I would like to thank the following people: Ellie for putting up with my initial grumpiness having discovered the evening dinner service was cancelled and organising a booking at a local pub for the birthday meal; the lady on reception for be so welcoming (sorry did not get your name); Dan for getting our firepit started (I definitely need one of those gadgets!) and Sandy for bringing us a lovely breakfast and plenty of coffee. We loved the shepherds hut and the staff definitely made our stay a comfortable one.

The rooms are lovely, cosy and clean, most with a terrace which is a great touch. The staff are all so helpful and friendly as well. We visited back in 2019 and were happy to come back and will definitely come again - a lot better value for money than most new forest hotels

This place is a great find - really lovely staff. The room was excellent and very comfortable. Breakfast was some of the best food I have tasted and some of the best-poached eggs I have had. I was staying for two nights as was attending a course nearby and I shall be returning as it's just a gem of a place. The kitchen was closed for dinner, but we were given plenty of options by the knowledgable staff. Thank you .

This is not only a great venue but a great place to explore. Just round the corner from the venue is a route through the forest which was great for the dog. The staff were beyond nice and wanted to help whichever way they could and the shepherds hut was cosy and well maintained I don't usually go to the same place twice but would consider it here
