We stayed in one of the lodges on the small island across from the city. They were pretty rustic but very comfortable. The restaurant was first class and not that expensive. They had an awesome river trip on a Zodiak were you could see sea lions, porpoises, bald eagles and some great scenery. more

We were a bit apprehensive is staying here given the mixed reviews but were pleasantly suprised. The Lodge is older but we maintained and clean. We had an ocean view room with a balcony. This was a bonus as we sat watching the boats and seaplanes go by while enjoying a glass of wine and beautiful sunset. The staff were... more

Myself and my fiance were doing a tour around Vancouver Island and this was the first place we stayed in. We stayed for 3 nights. Upon arriving the receptionist was very friendly and chatty. Our room was large and spacious. There was an odd smell when we first arrived, sort of like strong lemon cleaner. It had two large double... more

My wife and I stayed one night at Painter's Lodge on our way up to Telegraph Cove on northern Vancouver Island. We had pre-booked a room for $281 plus tax. This seemed a little steep, but given the Painter's reputation we thought the room would be pretty good. Wrong. The room was basically a dark motel room with no view... more

Staff were helpful, food - expensive so ate elsewhere in the nearby town. Room was quite large yet old-smelling. Beds comfortable & clean, but what little furniture was in the room was very old, - and not the quaint style old. Needs refurbishing. Each room has a good size deck, but could do with privacy screens between each deck as... more

We really enjoyed our stay here. Checked in to our rooms with a pod of killer whales swimming by in the channel. We found it a very relaxing place, lovely grounds, pool and balconies. We had breakfast and some evening meals on the terrace overlooking the sea where we spotted loads of wildlife as well as the cruise ships sailing... more

My friend and I went to painters Lodge for three nights and two fishing trips, We ended up staying an additional night and booked two more days fishing. The first guide we had took us out twice and both times it seemed he could'nt wait to pull the lines in and get back to the lodge. The second guide was... more

We had been led to believe this was a pretty upscale place to stay, and we so so disappointed that we asked to be moved to their sister hotel nearby (April Point REsort). We should have known when we entered the room and it had a strong musty smell (apparently had been unused all winter). Instead of hand towels, the... more

I am really surprised by some of the negative reviews of this place - we found the rooms to be spacious, the staff was really helpful, and all of the activities they offer are great. It's apparent that it used to be a "fishing" lodge, but now there is so much more to do, including a really nice spa across... more
