When we arrived we were welcomed by Ron and Emma, who both make every effort to make you feel at home. This beautiful B&B is located only a stone throw away from the Laphroaig whisky distillery, straight at the sea, with the Lagavulin and Ardbeg distilleries not far away either. Both rooms and their respective bathrooms are very luxurious and... More

Two reasons are Ron and Emma. They have restored a wonderful seaside home with every amenity you would need. They gave us great advice on how to manage our time on our stay in Islay; recommend the most effective sequence of distillery tours, suggested coastline walks, arranged for taxis, directed us t cool places. Just a great time with great... More

Our group of 4 loved the Old Excise House. The bedrooms are bright and spacious. Our bathroom with the clawfoot tub was lovely. Emma and Ron are great hosts. They were able to recommend sight-seeing itineraries and arrange for taxis, etc. The B & B is close to several distilleries so we were able to walk to the tastings and... More

The Old Excise House is hands down the best B&B experience my wife and I have had to date! We stayed in the Laphroaig room, and it was super clean, and incredibly spacious. Our bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was enormous. While we both typically prefer to shower rather than bathe, soaking in the giant freestanding tub while... More

Ron and Emma really know how to make their guests happy! We felt at home in the room and the view is outstanding. They provided us with great tips and information about Islay. Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg are in walking distance. The perfect place to stay at when visiting the island. More

Firstly, you need to understand that Ron & Emma Goudie are no ordinary innkeepers. Ron's the house professional at the The Machrie Golf Links on Islay, and Emma is soon to assume the duties of General Manager at the Hotel in Port Ellen. That said, I can't express my gratitude for their hospitality strongly enough. When we were able to... More

We had a wonderful stay at the Old Excise house. The rooms were great and I especially liked the bath tube with a wonderful view towards Laphroaig. Ron and Emma were such friendly and helpful hosts. they helped us with making reservation in restaurants and in arranging tours at the destilleries and I'm still dreaming of their kippers for breakfast... I stayed at the Old Excise House in September 2010 and had a wonderful time. Ron & Emma are very helpful and provided wonderful service. The views from the room and across the street are breathtaking. I had been touring UK and Europe for the previous 2 weeks and this was a great rest. Breakfast was wonderful and I really... More

This B&B is among the best we have experienced. Pristine and lovely decor, quiet, private, beautiful location and views, gourmet breakfast and homemade baked goods The Hosts, Emma and Ron Gaudie are very sophisticated, yet warm and friendly. We immediately felt at home. The guest rooms and breakfast/library room are privately located on the second floor and have wonderful space... More

Me and my friend had 7-day Scotland trip in early June, and this was our first stop away from city. We were blown away by Emma and Ron's hospitality: cosy and spacious room, sumptuous breakfast, free wireless internet (we never had free WiFi later in our trip!), valuable advices about good restaurant, local whisky tour, etc., and most of all,...
