We just returned from a week stay at Bamfield Lodge. The owners at this place are "Super Anal". We arrived to little post-it note rules all over - including one not to wear our shoes inside. I guess the painted plywood floors were too expensive to wear shoes on. The Hosts started rolling out their expectations right away... - "we hope you're not here to party", "please respect our cottages and take care of them", "don't bring your fish up on the dock unless their bagged because you'll attract flies", "don't cook crab in the cottages", etc. etc.

When I asked for a key to the cottage I was told one wasn't required. OK - so I can trust nobody will go in while we're gone fishing for 8 hours? Wrong - we left our friend back one afternoon, and while he was upstairs sleeping, he awoke to find Judy - the owner standing in the bedroom doorway - she simply told him they were leaving for a few days. Just got back from a fishing trip to the west coast of Vancouver Island in Barkley Sound. We stayed at the Bamfield Lodge, located in the tiny town of Bamfield BC. The lodgings themselves were okay and clean enough however it is in seriously need of some upgrades. The bedrooms had these rickety bunk beds that could have easily been regular beds instead, because the rooms were certainly large enough.

I don't think the owner/operators of the lodge really cared too much about fixing things up. An example of this is the fact that the chest freezer that fishermen are suppose to use for freezing their catch, barely worked. In fact, it never really froze any of our fish and one of our group had to fiddle around with the freezer just to get it to keep things cold (when your'e paying to stay at a place, you shouldn't have to do any handyman repairs to the appliances to get them to work)
