Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My wife and I enjoyed 2 nights at The Pilgrim Hotel. The staff were friendly, the rooms were comfortable and the food was excellent. Lots of local places to visit, and the hotel has leaflets covering many interests. We took in Ross-on-Wye on our way there, Hereford (Black and White Museum; Cathedral) and Ledbury on our way home. Highly Recommended.

We've eaten regularly in-house at The Pilgrim, had lots of takeaways and attended several of the Murder Mystery nights so, when we saw advertised the Indian cookery class with Head Chef, Deepak, it was a 'no brainer' as his Indian cuisine really is superb. Six of us attended the pristine clean kitchen. Deepak gave us an introduxtory talk into spices, regional foods, his own culinary history and then set us to work making a wonderful selection of dishes. From marinading chicken, making lamb (sheesh) kebabs, mini vegetable (vegan) samosas, Deepak's fantasticly unique onion bhajis, pilau rice, to an amazingly tasty fresh corriander-mint dip... every dish was superb. The best part was that we were then able to take it all home... what a feast it was! We were also given a booklet containing the recipes too. For the cost, the course was excellent value for money and we all thoroughly enjoyed learning so much. Highly recommended.

The pillows and duvet were so cosy in this 4 poster bed. Restaurant has character and food fabulous. Owner Trevor and Chef and team very accomodating with food and cater for coeliac and allergies. I arrived after a long journey, just as restaurant closing and so grateful when I was offered food choices all gluten free...it was Valentines Day night..they were full with customers in the restaurant. Thank you so much. I have stayed here several times. Lots of upgrades and lot of love goes into this place. If visiting Hereford, book Pilgrim Hotel & Restaurant.

Excellent Food. We were placed in the breakfast room as I had asked for a quiet area. The room was cold and one of the hosts was quite snappy but overall the experience was good. Would still come again as the food was so nice but next time will wear warmer clothes!

We stayed for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day for their special celebrations. The staff couldn’t do enough for us during our 2 night stay. The food was excellent and the entertainment good finished off with a wonderful firework display. It was tremendous value.

I wanted a ground floor room and so they swapped me from my superior room which I didn't mind as I had seen the photos of the family room on booking.com and looked really nice. I was told it had a wet room as well. On arrival the staff were great friendly and professional I went to the room which was desperate for a refurbishment and totally different to the pictures I saw on booking.com I touched the radiator and it was luke warm and presumed it was because it had just been switched off. The bathroom was awful and I desparate need of an upgrade very dated and clearly a disabled bathroom with rusting bars etc I had no time to stop as I had made a restaurant reservation. The restaurant felt soulless and the seats uncomfortable although again the staff were brilliant. Dinner was very average with the soup tasting very watered down and the lasagne again having little taste, the garlic bread with cheese was nice though. I decided against dessert and went to the bar area again really friendly and professional staff. I went back to my room after 10 the room felt cold but I knew it was 3c outside and thought the room would warm enough. Within an hour I was so cold and the radiator felt cold I went to reception to complain or get a heater but everyone had gone and they don't have any night staff. Went back to my room and it was so cold and got into bed, the mattress was memory foam and so uncomfortable I really don't think they should be using foam on hotel beds. The walls and ceiling as paper thin I could hear every noise from the room above me. Hours passed and I could not sleep as the room was so cold I was shaking and the bed so uncomfortable and the noise above, they must have turned the taps on 30 times in the night and was all getting to much. I moved to the single bed which at least was a spring mattress either very old or cheap it was not comfortable but better than the double foam. I couldn't sleep and went to reception at 6.55am to see if anyone there and I asked what time breakfast starts as I hadnt slept at all as the room was so cold. I was told 7am and could go through. I went to were I had eaten the night before but it was blocked by a chair and the bar area was so cold I went back to reception for a warm and was told breakfast was in a different room. Breakfast was very poor the only thing I liked was the eggs and the bread for toast. I left as soon as I could so I could get back and try and have a sleep before check out. I managed 40 mins sleep and that was by deciding not to have a shower. On checkout I told the receptionist how little sleep I had and shocked they keep the heating off all night in the bedrooms when we are in winter and it's so cold outside even reception wasn't very warm. They hadn't knocked the downgrade in my room change but I didn't complain because they did try and accomadate my request. When I left I found a parked area and managed to get two hours sleep in my car. Very disappointing stay. They got great staff and a beautiful building on the outside but it's desparate to have some money spent on it. They also need to consider their customers on cold evenings. I only gave one star and that was for the staff who themselves deserved a five but this review is about the overall hotel stay.

We booked a table for my partners birthday after driving passed The Pilgrim Hotel and thinking it looked a really nice location. Another added bonus is that they allow dogs in their bar area! The service from the minute we walked in the door was exceptional! We were greeted by 3 staff…. One of whom had a box of dog biscuits in her hands and straight away asked if our dog was allowed a treat… or six! We were seated in the bar in the window, when we got to our table there were more dog biscuits for our dog on the table. We were served quickly and the food arrived not long after. My partner has steak and I had seared chicken supreme…. The food was outstanding! Fresh, tasty and very well cooked and presented! We both had sticky toffee pudding for dessert which again was amazing! Cannot recommend the Pilgrim enough!

My sister and I came for afternoon tea and it was simply delicious! You choose your sandwich flavour on arrival and the afternoon tea consists of scones, mini cakes and also slices of cake. We had red velvet cake and carrot cake and it was amazing!! Staff are very friendly too and the restaurant has a lovely warm feeling!

The hotel is good value for money. Our bedroom was spacious and comfortable with lovely views over the valley. It is an easy hotel to stay in as flexibility is key. The bar/restaurant is open at reasonable times and easily accessible. This was our third visit together to a comfortable and friendly hotel. Thank you!
