My husband and I stayed here for a weekend as my school, The Red Maids' School - fust down the road - was celebrating its 375th anniversary and I needed to be within walking distance. I chose this beautifully kept B & B after viewing it on the internet and was not disappointed. The atmosphere was welcoming, all the staff... more

I spent three nights at Downlands House in August, 2009, and wish I could have been there longer! The family that runs the place is kind and helpful, and I was able to handle many details with them by e-mail before I arrived. The breakfast was huge - big enough to carry me over for lunch, too! The free wireless... more

We spendt 2 nights on this B&B on our first trip to Bristol. The location is just outside the city center and only 200 meters from the nearest bus-stop. The buses will take you to the center every 10 minutes. Downlands House has a friendly staff, clean nice rooms and a great breakfast. We loved it. No problem at all... more

I've stayed at Downlands House on several occasions and each time I've found it just what I need from a B&B - lovely comfortable rooms, immaculate bathrooms, friendly and knowledgable owners, a good breakfast and relaxing surroundings. The house is a large and elegant Victorian property that oozes charm. There are comfortable chairs in which to relax, interesting books and... more

I've stayed at Downlands House regularly over the past few years, under new and old ownership. It remains as delightful as ever. Patricia and Nick Voaden are friendly and welcoming. The rooms are comfortable with books and magazines in case you've left yours behind! Downlands is Victorian House with 10 bedrooms - the small scale and warmth of the owners... more

Having stayed at other hotels in the area, this is definitely the best in terms of overall facilities, presentation and service and is excellent value. Right through the hotel one feels at home, with no hint of the 'institutional' atmosphere experienced elsewhere. It well deserves the various star ratings consistently awarded. It is the nearest to the wide range of... more

I found the B&B on the Southmead Hospital website, after reading reviews on this, I contacted Patricia Voaden and booked with her over email and phone. She replied very quickly and was extremely helpful. Arrived for the night of my stay at around 9am, and Nick Voaden welcomed me, he is lovely, carried my bag to my top floor room... more

We stayed one night at this B&B. It is in a quiet location so a good night's sleep is assured. The bed was huge and very comfortable. Staff were hospitable and the breakfast was excellent. Only minor point being the central heating wasn't put on in the evening and it was a chilly night! more

This is a great B&B in Bristol. I've stayed there a few times on business. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the breakfast is absolutely great - freshly cooked to order. Much better than the breakfasts you get in hotels. Parking is on the street outside - so you have to take your chances, but I've never had any... more
