We weren't made to feel very welcome. The strong smell of tobacco smoke was disgusting. There was a lot of shouting and arguing one night which kept us awake and made us feel uncomfortable. more

Upon arriving to the hotel it looked beautiful! :-) when checking in we were tended to by a very pleasant chap who asked us if we had been to chester before and pointed out the wide range of information booklets. When showing us to our room he kindly offered to help us to carry our baggage. When we got to... more

I had occasion to stay here between the 19th and 21st august this year and found it very pleasant. The family who owned it where friendly and more than willing to share their local knowladge, not knowing the area this was extremely helpful. I had a clean room which was comfortable and suited me perfectly. more

Slept in a shoe box, bigger than the courtyard room. The welcome on arrival was non existant. It felt that you were troubling them , just by turning up. Just wish I had read the reviews before booking. There are far more reasonalble and attractive places to stay in Chester. Soplease if you read this. take a look around. And... more

I have a similar story to tell to 'Dodgey' and 'Stay away'. The hotel smelled very badly of cigarette smoke - due to cigarettes being smoked. The young man on reception smelled of drink. The room was so dusty we could write our names on the surfaces. Service was most definitely NOT with a smile. I asked for a jug... more

On arrival welcomed with an odour of cigarettes. The standard of cleanliness through out the b&b was not up to standard ; stale aroma, unwashed bedding, dusty surfaces, thin walls, squeaky floor boards, broken shower screen, bathroom in need of a good bleach. Also the drains over flowing right out side of our bedroom window.Skipped the breakfast lost our apetite, wont be returning.Definitely not a 4* B&B. more

This is more 2 star than 4 star. The courtyard was actually a gravel car park. The rooms are very small and drafty and the walls are paper thin. You could here EVERYTHING which was happening in the adjoining rooms including snoring! After not getting any sleep and asking to check out early the owners became very aggressive, we couldnt... more

My fiancé and I went to Derry Raghan for Valentines. We were staying in one of the courtyard rooms, separate from the hotel but with its own en-suite. It had a lovely Italian style to it with its stone floor and simple but stylish decor. What we also enjoyed was the fact that breakfast was delivered to our room the... more

I stayed at the Derry Raghan hotel on the 30th August 2008 with my partner. I live in Liverpool and we had a day and night out in Chester and fancied somewhere to stay overnight rather than travelling back home. We arrived at the hotel at about 1.00pm and entered the reception which we found to be homely and welcoming.... more
