Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely B&B in a perfect location. Walking distance into Chester across a footbridge over the river. We chose to walk along the city wall to a restaurant recommended by Chris & Helen. We had a comfortable night, perfect temperature & bed/room was clean & comfortable. Great sized bathroom too with thoughtful toiletries. Breakfast is plentiful with gluten & dairy free on offer. 5* all round. Highly recommend & we would stay again without hesitation.

This is great accommodation set in a quiet road and yet only five minutes walk to the bridge that takes you over the river into the centre of Chester. You can walk through the park and Roman ruins, or joint the ancient wall - 10 mins in all to reach the shops and attractions. Our room was spacious and very clean. The bed was really comfortable and we had a choice of hot drinks and biscuits. The owners, Chris and Helen, are lovely people and were really nice to chat to - they also cooked a great veggie breakfast. Our 13 year old, who shared our room, never moaned once! I would definitely recommend this B&B.

I stayed at Sycamore House for a weekend whilst on a course in Chester. Chris was very accommodating and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. A hearty breakfast set me up for the day. It is only a short, pleasant walk into the city centre, negating the need for finding parking in the city car parks. There are plenty of options nearby for dinner. Highly recommended.

A really warm welcome from hosts Chris and Helen and a lovely house with good facilities. We stayed to visit family nearby but it is only a short walk over the picturesque pedestrian suspension bridge to the river, city walls, park and city centre beyond. the location is a quiet residential area but Local shops are a two minute walk with a nice village feel in Handbridge. Very well set up to accommodate my wife's gluten and dairy free dietary needs as well.

Rarely in life does anything live up to its billing; Sycamore House does! It’s everything the reviews say and more that I’ll mention: Spotlessly clean. Comfortable. In a beautifully quiet area, Handbridge/Queens Park, full of fabulous Victorian villas, and only a 5 minute walk from the monumental suspension bridge over the River Dee, leading you to the beautiful riverside and Grosvenor Park. Town is just the other side of the park, so all in all it’s a very doable and pleasant walk into central Chester. And there’s a bus stop outside the door. Have to repeat myself- the house is on one of the quietest roads I’ve ever stayed on. I heard one car from 11pm until 10am. It’s fantastically quiet. You’ll sleep so well. I don’t know Queens Park/Handbridge well but I do know they are very pleasant areas, desirable, with pubs and lovely streets and a good sense of community. Helen and Chris look after their home and their guests - taking great care with both. The facilities are considered - satisfactorily equipped bedrooms, spotlessly clean, a very nice breakfast room overlooking a conservatory. The value for money is incredible - they are unstinting and cut no corners for the unusually fair and reasonable price eg offering fresh fruit, cereals and a hot breakfast! Honestly a very good breakfast, as others have said. And good fresh coffee. I wanted to stay another night 😊, but sadly had to leave. I’ll be back. Book it now!

It’s been a six year gap since we last visited Chester and it just seemed so right to choose Sycamore House as we had such a nice time way back then. Nothing has changed, Helen and Chris are just as welcoming and the rooms are always well presented. Breakfast is served between 7.30 am and 9.00 am and there’s a wide choice, including my own number one, the Full English, beautifully cooked and you can choose the items you wish which was helpful as I’d just started a diet. Hopefully it won’t be six years until the next visit because we do so enjoy it. Thank you again.

Lovely quiet accommodation just a short stroll to the river and then on into Chester. Our second time here but not our last because of the warm welcome you get, and of course the cracking breakfast. Highly recommended place to stay in a beautiful city

As other reviewers have said, Chris and Helen are lovely hosts - so welcoming and a mine of useful information about Chester and the surrounding area. The house is situated in a very quiet area yet within an easy walk (across the footbridge) of the city centre. The breakfasts were tasty and beautifully presented. We had the large room at the front, which has a very comfortable bed and a large well-appointed bathroom. Perfect for a long weekend!

What a fabulous place! Chris and Helen are delightful, very responsive and welcoming. Location is so quiet and perfect for leaving the car and taking a short, picturesque walk into the centre. We would definitely recommend, and will certainly boom again when we’re back in Chester
