The B&B is cozy and our room had a lovely view overlooking the river. The room and bath were large enough for us although the entire room slanted a little toward the river and the carpet needed to be replaced. The breakfast was fine, the hosts were very pleasant and helpful, and our stay was relaxing and enjoyable. more

This was our second visit to the Recorder House, the first in eight years. The hotel is a great base to discover the wonders that chester has to offer. The hotel`s owners go out of their way to make guests stay as comfortable as possible. We had a lovely room overlooking the river & it was in a very nice... more

Enjoyed the break, the hotel is excellently positioned and with off-street free parking. Owners and staff excellent and friendly. Breakfasts also very good. Our room on the top floor however was very cramped, the bed very small and the bedding old fashioned sheets. Fortunately our friends got one of the better rooms which was more spacious. If the best rooms... more

I can't understand why this B&B warrants 4 stars. Our bedroom was fine, although the bathroom was small but our friends' bedroom was small and unimpressive. The entrance is poky as is the reception area. There is no sitting room and the inconvenience of having bedrooms downstairs meant we were shushed on going to breakfast. The breakfast room could not... more

Stayed for 3 nights in September for our ruby wedding. Nothing was too much trouble for the hosts making us feel very special. The location is ideal, the breakfast delicious and generous and the room comfortable and cosy. We will not even look anywhere else when we next visit Chester. more

My Mum and I stayed in this hotel in mid-October for one night. Our room (Gemini) did not have any heating! We checked in quite late, went for a short walk and returned into freezing conditions. Hoping heating would start working at night, we went to bed but IT DID NOT!! Could hardly get out of bed the next morning... more

Management response from

very sorry to have received these comments at the end of their stay On checking the guests had apparently inadvertently switched the radiator valve off Such a shame as a call to us would have quickly resolved the problem Also for guests extra convenience and comfort there is a 'booster' electric fan heater provided in all rooms

It started with incredible hospitality. Before we traveled, the reservation process was simple and easy. Then Jim and Pat followed up with e-mail confirmations and even assisted in providing advice on our planning and recommendations for accomodations in other cities. After we arrived, they provided excellent advice on places not to miss and best of all on local transportation. We... more

Just spent the most pleasant weekend at this hotel, the service and ambience was first class. The breakfast was superb - just what you need after visiting the local hostelries. The bedrooms are all named after star signs and many have 4 poster beds with views of the river. Also on the first floor there is a fridge full of... more

The elegant Recorder's House in Chester was such a delightful hotel in which to stay. From the four poster room to the scrummy breakfasts our stay was perfect. I don't think I can find any fault at all. The view from our window was of the river and Kings Pool and weir. (A shame about the pink coloured private flats... more

We chose the Recorder House due to its location - it is in a perfect spot for exploring Chester, it is on the City walls and right next to the river, and only 5 minutes walk from the shops and restaurants. The house is full of character and the hosts are very friendly. Breakfast on both mornings was very good... more
