We stayed at this hotel for our honeymoon 25 years ago. Back then the hotel was quaint, clean and had good food. We decided to go back for 3 nights as part of our silver wedding anniversary celebrations. Having seen the room and taken a walk around the hotel facilities we decided we couldn't stay. The butcher put raw meat... more

I arrived in Newquay on business, and was booked into the Edgcumbe by the company. I was pleasantly surprised with the room, especially for the price I paid, it was clean and had a lovely sea view. Checking in was swift and the reception staff were happy to help with anything you needed to know. The facilities were good, with... more

Initially I'd like to point out that I am not a petty person and in most cases find that with Hotels such as the Edgcumbe you get what you pay for. I had read all the reviews about how dated the hotel was and how the standard the rooms were which hadn't put me off, however our check in time... more

The Edgecumbe was indeed rather dated. The room me and my husband stayed in was very small, the bathroom was just a wc and bath/shower.The washandbasin was actually in the room,by the window. It was rather cramped, however it was fun.I think the owners could do with refurbishing. But our view from the room of the sea was fantastic.Cant fault that. The staff were lovely, very friendly... more

This is a 1960's hotel which, like a lot of British coastal hotels, is past its sell-by date. The public rooms are reasonable but our bedroom was at the back up a narrow staircase which smelt musty, along a corridor which creaked badly, and the view from the bedroom window was of an adjoing derelict building where pigeons were in... more

A promising start - arriving in a welcoming entrance lobby - rapidly went down hill as we were directed to our rooms. Confined to the 'dungeon' , a series of corridoors, rooms and facilities in the basement of the building and with headroom tight, our accomodation was well below par and most definately not value for money..... Damp and musty,... more

My friend and I booked here for the Boardmasters weekend for a hen weekend because we didnt want to camp, it was an okay hotel for £42 a night, it was dated but was clean. We were on the 3rd floor so quite a few stairs (the lift is tiny and you can only fit one person in!), we had... more

Myself and a friend booked our stay due to EVERYWHERE else being booked up due to the Boardmasters festival. All i can say is why i spent 3 times as much here instead of camping is beyond me? The Hotel was like a 70's throwback. Breakfast bad. Room Small, cramped and damp. Shower either red hot or freezing cold and... more

What a shocking experience. Booked the hotel online and was the cheapest we could find but didnt expect the hotel to be falling apart. Staff were in general rude and unhelpful. Rooms were damp, musty and some had not even been cleaned before we arrived. Most rooms DID NOT have showers and the ones that worked were either freezing cold... more
