The Fountain Tavern was built around 1837 though newly refurbished in 2014 it still retains its period charm. We are conveniently placed in Penzance, which boasts great restaurants, shops, cinema, theatre and bars. Our location is great for easy transport links to popular tourist destinations including St Ives, Mousehole, Lamorna and many more.

Serves a delicious Sunday lunch, plentiful vegetables served separately, excellent roasted potatoes. A good touch is the warmed plates. Very reasonable charges. Perhaps just a little niggle, there isn't a menu board to say what the meat choices of the day are or prices. As the serving area is a little stark the addition of table mats, a flower or two on the tables would certainly enhance the visit. However its a friendly little pub and the young waitress tried her best to be helpful.

Booked a month in advance with explicit instruction that checkin started at 1600. Arrival at 1555 seemed to cause much confusion. Finally advised that my confirmed room had been given to a walk-in - no answer to how this could happen if checkin started at 1600. Told that another room would be prepared “straightaway”. Forty minutes later handed a key; I suggested that a discount should be given - which prompted being surrounded by three members of staff and told that I was lucky to get the room at that rate! Room basic but clean and okay. But - £95/night room only. Above a pub. In Penzance! Probably worth about half that. I visit Penzance frequently and prefer to support local businesses - but this is definitely not on my list of places to stay - wildly overpriced and rude staff, used to running a backstreet pub not a “hotel”.…

What a jem. Don't usually do pub stays but I am now converted. The chains being all booked out and or expensive I opted for a pub stay on my route to Scilly isles. I could not have been made more welcome and felt like part of the family after a few pints at the bar. I was going to head into town exploring for the evening, but was captivated by the charm and friendly atmosphere. I will be back for sure, the room was clean and modern with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Unlike the new chains you can even open the window which was a nice change. (I use the chains a bit for work and I hate the sealed rooms) If your looking for a good midrange priced (this I would even consider cheap for the quality) give this place a go, was loads of fun

Myself and my partner and newborn baby attended the fountain tavern Christmas Day for dinner. Before attending we where asked to pay a deposit of £30. A week before are meal they then contacted us to say the full amount would need to be paid before the day. Which isn’t something that a restaurant/pub would usually do. We went in for Christmas dinner and the quality of food for the price charge was terrible I’ve seen better meals served in nursing homes. When the waitress come to collect our plates she asked “did you enjoy that” I replied to be honest no and it wasn’t worth the money that was charged. She then went into the kitchen and got her dad to come to the table, abruptly he said what’s “what’s the problem” so I repeated what I said to the waitress (his daughter) instead of apologising he replied defensively stating everyone else had enjoyed it. I was disgusted as a paying customer the way he approached the situation as I was very polite and didn’t even request for my money to be refunded. We then sat there and waited for our dessert the owner then passed the table again and said rudely if you don’t like it then leave.while eating we had to females that were sat on a separate table we could over hear one of them being very rude to her friend, resulting in her friend going to the kitchen crying asking for her meal to be put in a takeaway container. With in a coupe of minutes another waitress came out and requested that we and the lady remaining on the other table to leave which we had nothing to do with. We asked why as we were nothing to do with the issues of the other table. We hadn’t finished are drinks or even been given are dessert. There was also other customers in the pub that vouched for us and said it was very wrong. My partner then went to the kitchen we’re the owner was that approached us previously as said to him if your asking us to leave are we going to get our money back l. Once again he was very rude and did not want to listen, the way we we’re treated was hamilulating and disgusting. I advice if your thinking about going to stay here or go for a meal. That you go somewhere else as there are many lovely family run pubs in Penzance, that have friendly staff that treat there customers with respect and also don’t go around telling members of the public different story and trying to slander your name .…

We stayed one night in the spacious family room #4 (one king bed & two double beds) with clean shower & toilet for £210.00 including continental breakfast. Rooms are towards a busy street. No on-site parking, but nearby public parking with free hours from 4:00 pm - 9:00 am. Very friendly & helpful staff members. At the moment the restaurant is closed. Good bar selection. Pedestrian zone with takeaway restaurants is nearby. Great place for a short trip to Penzance.

Just stayed the weekend, the pub was shut due to refurbishment but the rooms were spotless and fresh ,comfy bed and nice shower, perfect for what we wanted. The hosts were very helpful and friendly and the location is perfect for parking and walking into Penzance. Plenty of lovely beaches only a short drive away and would like to return when the pub is open sometime.
