our first time to the ship and castle although parking is a problem it isnt far to walk to the hotel, reception staff were friendly and helpful, food was of a good choice but perhaps not enough for the hungry eater. our room was clean and tidy, the only downside was that the window didnt open very wide.staff serving food... I have just returned from a 5 day break at St Mawes with Shearings, staying at the Ship and Castle. Overall the trip was excellent value and I have no complaints at all about the transport, organisation, location, excursions or the driver who was outstanding. The only let down was the food at the Ship and Castle which I can... More

Stunning vistas from the refurbished downstairs. Good is good- choice, quantity and service. Rooms need more attention. 1st night I complained about the torn and stained shower curtain; the grey unwashed bedroom net curtain and the black dirt and mould around the bedroom and toilet windows. There was a partial improvement of a new shower curtain and net taken down... More

Just returned from a 4 night stay in this very comfortable hotel. Stunning location in the center of St Mawes overlooking the harbour. From the 'first floor' lounge it feels as if you are in the harbour afloat. Meals (breakfast and dinner) were excellent considering the cost of the break. The dining staff were efficient and friendly providing excellent service.... More

We were looking for a hotel with fantastic views. We were not disappointed, it was all we could have wished for and more, the staff were helpful, efficient and always pleasant. we had read some reviews but decided to make our own minds up, so glad we did. Thank you for taking the time to review us in such a positive light. I am glad that you ignored the posts by a minority of former guests who have left derogatory reviews and am very happy that you enjoyed your stay with us and hope to see you in the near future. This hotel room was the worst I have ever used in all my years of travelling. It was dirty, with cobwebs and even a spider body stuck to the wall, we even had to wait whilst the room was prepared. The shower cubicle and bathroom was too small and the mattress had partially collapsed. There was no scope for movement... More

Thank you for reviewing us. It is hard to believe that you actually rated us 1 of 5 for value when you paid £54.5 Dinner Bed and Breakfast PPPN. I am disappointed that you did not find your room up to the normally high standard which Coast and Country Hotels prides itself on. It should be noted that room 206... More

I concur with other reviews that this well located hotel is far less than it should or could be given the price. We stayed there for 3 nights for the long weekend celebrating significant birthdays with local friends. We only had breakfast there which was passable though my poached eggs on the last morning were inedible. The bathroom was shabby,... More

Thank you for taking the time to review us and would firstly like to note that we had no large groups of people staying in the hotel during the time of your stay. The hotel is part of the Coast and Country Hotels, which operates as part of the Shearings group. I apologize if the food was not up to... More

The hotel is in a fabulous location on St Mawes waterfront. Unfortunately that is the best part. This is a Shearings group hotel and obviously a number of the guests were Shearings group customers and really suitable for independent travellers, we had not realised that when we booked. The communal areas are bright and well maintained. Our room was poorly... More
