After my two children finally left home for University in London we decided to treat ourselves to short relaxing weekend away .... and my goodness we were not disappointed. The location is tranquil to say the least, a lovely view of the harbour with the little ferry coming and going. Fantastic scenery and walks. But what impressed us most of... more

We have just returned from the most relaxing break. The website promised going to sleep to the sound of the waves and that is just what you get. The location is idyllic and the rooms and service were perfect. THe hotel is just quaint enough without being old-fashioned but with excellent modern bathrooms and fab touches like robes and mineral... more

Mid October and we needed some time out. Our room was spacious, equipped with a generous hospitality tray: the bathroom luxurious. A sofa in front of our picture window provided stupendous views over the attractive harbour out to ships in the Carrick Roads and beyond. For avid birdwatchers mergansers fed a few yards below our room at high tide! Friendly... more

stayed for 6 nights at the end of September. Lucky to have excellent weather, and hotel in perfect location. Had a seaview room, but again, had to agree that furnishings etc were a little tired- how ever, no noise from other guests evident. Meals were without exception excellent, but service a little on the slow side- managed to overcome this... more

Why do some people feel the need to rubbish this hotel, saying that it's "tired" and "needs a makeover"? Could it be a diet of reality TV and behind the scenes hotel programmes? Lets put the record straight - the Idle Rocks is clean, comfortable, has friendly, helpful staff, great food and is in a fantastic location. Yes it's a... more

A fantastic location, right on the seawall of this picturesque village (our window "ledge" was a 3 foot thick seawall on which we sat, drinking wine, while the sun set. But the whole hotel was a huge disappointment:- furnishings and decor are dated and getting distinctly tatty (mildewed shower, stained carpets, etc). Nowhere close to the "luxury" standard it claims... more

Very dissapointed with the Idle Rocks, this hotel has gone downhill. We stayed for one night, dinner bed and breakfast. The dinner we had was not very pleasant to say the least. Baked goats cheese with a walnut crust to start....this was stone cold and so rubbery, had it been thrown against the wall it would have stuck there. Main... more

The hotel is beautifully situated at the side of the estuary – although the view from our sea view room was spoiled by the fact it also overlooked a public seating area which rather compromised our privacy. The public rooms are quite pleasant and the restaurant is tiered enabling all tables to have a good outlook over the sea. The... more

We booked a 2 night stay with LateRooms and were delighted when we arrived. The staff were uber friendly but not in an insincere way! As it was a late booking we had to change rooms for the second night but it was effortless and was actually a bonus. First night was in a (small) room by reception; it had... more
