Stayed on the 'indulgence' package which includes dinner and a pre-dinner cocktail, flowers and breakfast.(with partner and 2 year old) Room was very nice lush large bed and in a quiet part of hotel- However it was a bit weirdly laid out the large'feature' bath in our actual room felt badly placed and lacked the luxurious feel it was supposed to... more

We stayed for one night in this hotel due to its location and the Michael Caine restaurant, where we had a fantastic evening spent eating delicious food, drinking fantastic wine and with a view of the cathedral, you couldn't beat it. However, our night's stay in the hotel was most definitely NOT up to the same standard. The basic room... more

The Royal Clarence Hotel or Abode Exeter is literally opposite Exeter Cathedral in the lovely county of Devon. This is a four star hotel part of the Abode Boutique chain. I booked direct online as a treat for my mum who I haven't seen much of. I took advantage of the Autumn offer which was 79.00 per night over 3... more

There are plenty of good points to this hotel but on the basic requirement of a good nights sleep it failed....I think I had my worst nights sleep for a long time....our room was connected to another room by a paper thin connecting door and we were able to hear word for word every conversation from the connected room....thankfully they... more

Booked an attractive looking "All Inclusive" package of Diner at Michael Caine's restaurant + bed / breakfast - First disappointment: size of room (No. 118). Approx. 10 ft x 10ft with 2 single-beds for a double. Adding the side-table + free-standing bath (bottom of bed) left no space to walk around bed! Also impressed by mirror being 6ft from socket,... more

Having stayed at the Abode in 2005 and being very impressed ,decided to book a special offer deal again. Unfortunately this time we were disappointed. The room was tiny and if sitting at the desk, you couldn't get past the bed. Getting to the room was like going through a rabbit warren and it did concern me how we were... more

Looks lovely from the out side but we found the room very disappointing as it didn't have the degree of finish that we are used to. It's advertised as a luxury hotel so you expect the standard of the room to be top rate. It was one of the cheaper rooms but: There were marks on the walls, a hole... more

Make sure you tell the taxi driver your are going to the Royal Clarence as you will only receive blank looks if you say the Abode Hotel. The hotel looks nice and is on a road that has no traffic, except the odd delivery truck, so no traffic noise. There are lovely shops around the hotel and the view of... more

I had stayed at the Abode twice before and couldnt wait to take my husband. We booked a long weekend and loved it so much we decided to stay another night. When we checked in we were offered an upgrade and I immediatey asked if room 401 was available and luckily it was. This is a wonderful room, large and... more

Stayed for just one night in a "desirable" room - the room categories seem to be quite random! The room - up in the ancient lift, down a flight of stairs and up another - was tiny, barley 4m x 4m, + bathroom. With internet access (wired) on a rickerty half table but a very comfortable bed and a fantastic... more
