Very good city-centre location with olde worlde atmosphere. Accomodation very satisfactory. Food is very reasonably priced and menu as wide ranging as I've ever seen in a pub. Two meals for £10 with 20% discount for hotel residents cannot be beaten! more

Like some other reviewers, I was concerned about the negative comments for this hotel - I shouldn't have worried. We received a really friendly welcome when we arrived hours after we were due; our room was a bit tired, but a good size and with a very comfortable bed. The shower was fantastic and breakfast was an absolute delight, with... more

We have stayed here a number of times now when dropping off/collecting my daughter to and from University. It is very near the centre and has allocated parking. I can even walk, in 5 minutes, to the shopping centre and cathedral. The hotel has wonderful character, the restaurant is good and very reasonably priced and the staff are well trained... more

Read the reviews and decide what sort of traveller you are before you book... I agree with most of what's been put before, but my room was clean (I did the wet tissue test after reading what another reviewer had said) and it's a great deal cleaner than most. Forwarned, we asked for quiet rooms (singes) and were on the... more

I was a bit worried before we went as there had been previous bad reviews of this place but in all honesty, I'm not sure why all the bad press. True, it could do with a makeover and some money spent on it (lino doesn't do it for me) but the place was clean and fairly comfortable. The staff were... more

I had asked to stay in the old part of the building when I booked, but was given a room in the modern extension. Luckily there was still space in the historical part, or I would have been paying 50 pounds (special 2 night weekend rate) to stay in a bare, lino-floored hostel room. When I realised that single occupancy,... more

Stayed here for one night as i had business at the Hospital. Only got it because other places were booked but it proved to be atleast good value for money. Not fully 3* but for the money, i havent got any complaints. I got in late and left early before the breakfast.......................but my room was cosy, warm and relatively clean.... more

God where to begin....Was down in Exeter on business and had the misfortune to be a guest in this truly terrible Hotel. Whatever happens avoid room 12 in the old part of the building, floors creak, the bathroom has a pronounced slope in it, no hot water, boiling hot room though if you open the window you have to enjoy... more

I stayed in this unique, wonderful old hotel for 3 months while working in Exeter on assignment from the US. It dates back to the 1400s and is likely haunted but unfortunately I didn't have the pleasure of meeting any of the resident ghosts. It shows wear & tear from the centuries of use, which adds to it's character I... more
