Fortunately we were only booked in to stay one night. At first sight the guest house looks OK until you get to your room, we stayed in the Nicholas II room on the top floor. A family room (although there was only two of us) which had three single beds, it was quite spacious butr there was no heating apart... more

we have been upgrading the b and b in the last few years but it is not an overnight task - the lower and middle floors at this time all had brand new high quality bathrooms and it is a shame you did not get the experience one of these beatiful rooms. since then we have now upgraded the top...

I had been staying at the Express by Holiday Inn which was convenient for where I was working in Exeter but not for eating out or going out into the city in the evening so I moved the third time I visited. The breakfast at the Road Lodge was a great improvement, what I would expect of any hotel or... more

I was interested to read your current reviews and see that there has been little improvement at the Road Lodge since our visit in April '07. Our room was adequate but not particularly inviting and we were surprise to find there was no soap in the en-suite. However, it was the breakfast experience that was particularly bad. It was still... more

Many improvements have taken place over the years and we are always investing in upgrading. It is an old building ( 1850s ) and as such it requires much more TLC than people may realise! But with that you get character and certainly not clinical. of course we make no excuses for anything dirty and pride ourselves on the cleanliness...

This website has a funky website. It has a hottub and free wifi. The room names are written beautifully on the doors in russian. That is all I can say that is pleasant about this dump of a guesthouse. My room smelt of burnt rubber, and was bare and drab, with a grubby carpet and stained walls. The partition wall... more

We have been working hard at Road Lodge to make every room sn-suite and high standard modern bathrooms. This is by no means a small process. The two shared bathrooms will both be replaced shortly as more and more of the rooms become en-suite. The bathrooms are still kept clean at all times

The room we had was on the middle floor - It had wooden floorboards and a bathroom attached. The room overlooked the garden which was lit at night and had a nice pond. Breakfast was continential but reasonable for the money we paid. We paid £65.00 for the night for two persons - seemed average price in exeter. I would... more

Ok where do i start.......... The room we booked was yuri double room on the top floor. The was so small that at some points i could not stand up straight due to the fact the room was in the roof. The clothes storage facility consisted of a metal hanger attached to the wall. The room was very bare, where... more

Road Lodge is an 1850s period building and with that you get charactor. It is not a travel Lodge. 90% of our clients are happy and tell us so. Yuri is or was not the best room but then it is neither sold as oor best room. By October 2008 the entire top floor including Yui will be converted to...

We stayed in Road Lodge during November and were put in a family room at the very top of the house. As I had booked late this was not a problem. What were the problems included: The room was FREEZING. I slept with my coat on top of my duvet. The bathroom was dirty and the toilet was blocked which... more
