Stayed here for two nights (Sunday and Bank holiday Monday. Normally a room is £75 but we opted for the £90 room with a four-poster bed and jacuzzi bath.

Check-in was smooth and friendly; room allocated (Number 2) was very comfortable and traditional English country pub with good quality furniture and fittings. The bed was extremely comfortable. We decided to take advantage of the good weather and eat from the bar menu on one of the tables outside. The food was good quality pub fare edible but not over-exciting or ambitious in the culinary sense.

Breakfast offered a good choice, with traditional English breakfast, kippers or, as a tilt to Eurepean visitors, cold ham and tomato. The cooked English breakfast seemed locally sourced and of good quality. However breakfast is early, between 8.00 to 9.00, for folk who want to chill out and relax on holiday. We recently took a long weekend in Cornwall, staying at St Mellion which is about 2 miles away from the Weary Friar on Pillaton crossroads.

We walked in without booking and were welcomed by a packed pub, a lady with a smily face and a roaring log fire.

We had had a long day in the clean fresh Cornish air and were cold and starving - the atmosphere at the Weary Friar was warm and the menu was simple and good.

There were plenty of waitress's working and they were very attentive, friendly and polite without being intrusive.

Myself and my friend ordered the fillet steak strips in a cajun sauce - not what I had expected, but a fantastic pleasent surprise - definetely worth a try. My husband had a straight fillet steak in a peppercorn sauce which was monsterous, one of the biggest fillet steaks I have seen in a pub! and my other friend ordered seabass fishcakes with potatoes and vegetables.
