We booked this hotel after reading the good reviews it received, but were a little concerned that all of them dated from 2007, and the bad one it got was from April 2008. However, we have just returned from a three-day stay at the Ravenswood hotel and throughly enjoyed our visit there. The owner Simon was extremely friendly and helpful,... more

On booking in, owner seemed pleasant but his wife wasn't very friendly. Rooms were fairly small and the family room we had was shabby in decor, with paint splodges on the walls, cracking paint, removed locks and holes in doors, no bulb in hallway light, noisy toilet, banging water pipes through the night, yucky bathroom tiles ad just generally needed... more

If you're looking for a hotel with a friendly and cozy atmosphere then you'll enjoy your stay at the Ravenswood. I was there with my boyfriend's family (5 persons) and all agreed that it was a very pleasant stay. What I really liked: 1) location (near the next shopping centre, restaurants and the sea) 2) friendly and warm atmosphere as... more

My girlfriend and I booked this Hotel for a short break. Upon arrival we were welcomed by the owner Simon. He was very courteous and informative. Nothing we asked for was too much trouble. The room was very clean, tidy and spacious. The bed was great (after such a long drive). We loved the breakfast, very filling and well presented.... more

Hotel was close to the centre of Torquay but beware if you are old it is on a hill. My room was not large but clean & comfortable. Owner and his wife were very welcoming and helped me to find where I had to go. Also had an excellent meal in the hotel's japanese restaurant. I enjoyed my stay and... more

my brief stay at the Ravenswood was blighted by dirty linen, bins over-flowing, and dirty cutlery. The alleged owner was constanlty consuming alcohol and very argumentitive with both guest and staff. Upon going down for breakfast , we were advised by a waitress to avoid anything fried, as it was cooked in month old lard and meat products were allowed... more

Has the writer stayed at our hotel? I think they may have made an error!! ...........In response: 1) We have no bar and I rarely drink, never in the hotel. So how could I have been drunk?....... 2) We have no waitresses, I serve breakfast to our guests. So how could this guest have had a conversation with a waitress?...

well, for £28 a night like nearly $50/60. i can honestly say this was the worst hotel (if you can call it that) i have ever sayed at. Were not allowed to have any friends in the rooms, no talking after 11pm. no drinking alcohol, no late nights. Early lock ins. Insulting managers. Basically this place is a disgrace and... more

The guest guest who has complained invited 4 friends back to his room at 3am in the morning, after a night's drinking. They decided to carry on partying, playing music loudly, shouting etc. They woke up most of the other guests staying in our small hotel. I went to find out what the noise was and looked through the window...

The friendly owner and his Japanese wife with their lovely puppy, the hearty welcome and the good service make it worth staying at The Ravenswood Hotel. You can be sure that you receive a friendly answer and good tips to every question you make. The location is ideal to explore the town of Torquay and to approach to the sea.... more
