The Marstan Hotel is an elegant mid-Victorian Villa peacefully located along Meadfoot Sea Road in a conservation area. The harbour and town are approximately ten minutes walk with the blue flag awarded Meadfoot Beach and its stunning views being less than five minutes on foot. An extensive refurbishment program saw The Marstan achieve a five-star guesthouse rating in 2007. In keeping with the period of the building, the hotel is traditionally furnished with antiques complemented with modern amenities such as contemporary bathrooms, flat screen televisions, wifi and ipod docking stations. The Marstan is the only five star guesthouse in Torquay to benefit from a combination of an outdoor swimming pool, hot tub and a licensed bar. The owners and staff endeavor to provide an attentive and personal service without being intrusive, with the aim of creating a luxury boutique hotel ambiance.

We have recently returned from a fantastic 2 night stay at The Marstan to celebrate my partners Birthday.

Firstly, if you have any concerns surrounding COVID safety, you needn't have. The hotel was clean, tidy, sanitiser is available on entrance, staff wearing face coverings wherever needed, and the breakfast room suitably laid out for social distancing.

We arrived a couple hours before check in, calling ahead to ask if we could just pop our bags in, however we were pleasantly surprised to be told that our room was available allowing us to check in early and then head out for the day in Torquay. The hotel is about a 10/15 minute walk from the shops/restaurants. Mainly downhill on the way out but fairly uphill on the way back. We walked it on a few occasions but it only set us back a few pounds in a taxi in the evening.

The hotel itself has some great facilities including pool and hot tub, fully stocked bar and lounge. Breakfast was amazing, we are foodies and the bagel with scrambled egg and salmon was so good I had it both mornings. As well as fresh fruit, yogurt and toast.

Finally, the owners were so friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much to ask and they made our stay the best we could ask for.

Thanks again to The Marstan for a wonderful stay!

You pays your money and you takes your choice. Picked this one on reviews, availability and budget.
What a fabulous find. Met by very very hospitable owners who put the kettle on and made us a brew due to the long drive, nice touch. Lovely little room, spotlessly clean, comfy bed no role to the middle!!!! Nice fan in case the weather made you sweat. Great base for a day and evening out and about. Nice list of places they recommend and a taxi phone number. Took their advice and went to Man Fridays and had a lovely meal. Its a up hill walk back and I managed it fine, can understand why the Taxi number provided, for some the walk might not be advised. Breakfast next day in the Dining Room started at 8:30 and it is all waiter/waitress/Nick service at present due to C-19. Tea, Coffee, Toast, Full English, Salmon, Pancakes, its all available and all cooked fresh. Bacon and Sausage was very tasty and obviously deli quality from local producer. Eggs in anyway you wish and my poached ran golden yellow and very tasty indeed. The decor is lovely, the dining room chairs particularly of interest . The friendly manner of the owners and the lovely food and cleanliness makes this place a regular place to stay for many returning guests and we could see why. Whilst this was a holiday visit I will use it again on my business trips to Torbay as it's better than numerous bigger Hotels I've stayed at locally. My wife and I loved the place and think other people will too.

Had a lovely night here, very comfortable charming room, spacious and luxurious. Very warm welcome, brilliant parking right outside, clean and very nicely presented property. Didn’t hear any other guests or traffic very peaceful, didn’t use the pool or hot tub due to the weather conditions but looked lovely. Morning breakfast was faultless with very warm and attentive staff. Would definitely go again. Definitely would recommend!

Where to start with what was a lovely week in the sun staying at The Marstan with the lovely family Nick,Jackie,Pipa and Winter the 🐈
We were made to feel so welcome in this beautiful 5 Star Guest House
With add ons with the Hot 🔥 Tub and Swimming Pool and might i say a well stocked bar 🍸 which again was a bonus. (Some cracking whiskeys)
The breakfast was all fresh and cooked perfectly and Jackie,Pipa and team looked after all our complicated requests to which nothing was a problem.
As fantastic as the week at the Marstan was we all agreed it was like hanging round with friends in a very beautiful Guest house. Also in the current pandemic all covid guidelines adhered to making us all feeling safe.
The location was perfect in a quiet place 10 minutes walk from the Marina.
Also you can rely on Pipa to give you
A full tourist information lowdown with a smile at breakfast if required.
If we required any additional items they were more than happy to meet our demands.
To finish off lovely family fantastic guest house equals 1 brill holiday at the Marstan well done Jackie,Nick and Pipa missing the hot tub and double hennesy already DOH
All the Best the Cardwells

What a great little find this place was. A real little gem in Torquay. Jackie was a fantastic host and nothing was too much trouble and went above and beyond with a smile. The decor was decorated with 19th century art and furniture and was stunning on first view. No worries about COVID as there is plenty of space with common sense rules being applied. Geat hot tub and pool really added value for money too. I can't recommend the place highly enough. The breakfast was probably one of the best I've had in the UK, imaginative and attention to details made even breakfast special in a luxurious setting. Well done to Jackie and the whole team.

The Marstan is a charming small family run hotel with all the positive things that entails. Nothing was too much trouble during our week long stay and Nick and Jackie were very friendly and welcoming. Drinks by the pool and dips in the hot tub were great after sightseeing and their recommendations for places to eat were spot on. We felt totally chilled when we left and would totally recommend this hotel as great value for money with a touch of luxury! Thanks for a great stay.

We Loved this little Gem. A beautiful old seaside villa with so much character and charm. Our room was very clean and comfortable with a lovely view of the pool from a big bay window. The hosts Jackie and Nick were very friendly and helpful and a coffee on arrival was a very welcome gesture. The breakfast was delicious freshly cooked to order and always hot. A great choice of different things were on offer but we chose the full English with gorgeous crispy bacon and eggs whatever way you preferred. We chose scrambled and fried. A lovely quiet location only a short walk from town although a little hilly but taxis are easy and reasonably priced. Would highly recommend and would definitely return for another stay. Thank you.

This hotel was practically perfect in every way.
We only stayed for 1 night but would happily spend a few lazy days there - especially in good weather as the outdoor pool is a lovely spot to soak up the sun.
I arrived earlier than the check in time but the room was already prepped so I was able to get settled in straight away.
Room 10 is lovely and the huge bathroom with twin sinks and excellent shower over the bath was spotless.
The couple who own the place take great care of their guests and the breakfast was delicious.
With overseas travel off the table for us right now this place deserves to be fully booked all year round!

This hotel is full of charm with original features and fittings. The owners welcomed us with a chat and a drink which was welcomed after a long drive. The accommodation is a stunning older property and the furniture is beautiful and original so expect some wear and tear...if you are expectating ultra modern clean lines this hotel may not be for you. The dining area was luxurious and the breakfast was delicious. Added bonus of outdoor pool and hot tub . Be aware this hotel is about 10 mins to centre and is on a steepish hill on your return journey so may not suit everyone. Book restaurants before you go as they can be very busy and some of the popular ones had no tables for several weeks.

Unfortunately myself and my wife did not get to stay here due to an unfortunate mix up with Booking.com. However I still wanted to write a review due to the host being so helpful when we were stranded in Torquay during possibly the busiest time of the year, which is far more than I can say for Booking.com. Jackie greeted us on arrival with a smile and was very helpful. Unfortunately the hotel was full so we couldn't be offered another room but Jackie did try calling other hotels in the local area to try and find us some accommodation. I can see why people love it here. I spent my time in Torquay wishing I was here and not the soulless Hotel I ended up in.
