Stayed 4 nights at the Wessex Royale in September 2009. Wonderful welcome and helpful smiling staff everywhere. Historic classic English breakfasts and on 2 occasions we had dinner food was good, with lovely service. Booked this at a heavily discounted walk in rate but still poor value. Given 4 poster and jacuzzi room but room generally tired. TV facility OK. Food in bar and at breakfast good. Stayed two nights. Room was comfortable, very clean and well equipped. Free wifi and a modern television with digital channels neither of which are available in many of the large chain hotels. This is a good value hotel. We booked direct with them and were given the internet rate. The hotel is centrally placed in Dorchester. The room was good, clean, comfortable and well provisioned. I booked this right at the last minute as I had an unexpected business trip to the area. Got a bargain price through a third party website which was a suite - single occupancy. I stayed here with my mum for a long weekend to go walking and to explore Dorchester. The single rooms we were given were comfortable but in the roof and small. The staff were friendly and helpful but the restaurant probably isn't worth bothering with. more
