My boyfriend and I stayed at The Bakehouse in Sherborne for a long weekend whilst visiting the area and my family. The location is great and very central to town. However, the bedroom was very small and the bed a double which was a pain as my boyfriend is 6'4 so hung out of the end. Luckily he could rest... more

With a water problem in "my" room and a full house over Bank Holiday weekend, Malcolm made arrangements for me to stay the 2 weekend nights of my 5 night stay at the Half Moon Inn. He gets points for this because the Half Moon was 16 GBP/night more. Malcolm deducted the difference from the Bakehouse total. I had to... more

Malolm the proprietor could not have been more helpful. Never less than a smile on his face and made us feel more than welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. He even took us to Yeovil as we were going to see Southend Utd play Yeovil on Saturday afternoon. Do not expect 5 star, but you get more than your moneys... more

Reading the comment below it seems that you can’t please everybody, but staying here a number of times for business in various rooms I have no complaints! The general atmosphere is warm and friendly lead by the larger than life owner Malcolm. I had dinner here (£15) and choose to sit at a shared table, although I could have sat... more

We originally booked to stay here in the spring but had to postpone so booked for October. When we called a few days before there was no record of our booking but there was a room for us. On arrival we were led across a shabby courtyard strung with washing and into an annexe. Mattress and furniture stacked in the... more

The Bakehouse is a B & B with a difference. The owner is very friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere is very relaxed, but this is NO 'Fawlty Towers'. The rooms are cosy and clean and it is a breath of fresh air that there are no rules or timings for breakfast. I nearly missed my train as I was so... more

Everything unclear, we booked a ground floor room but when we arrived it was 1st floor, no bath mat, previous guests' soap still in shower, towels like sandpaper. On the phone we were told the deal for evening meal was £10 for main course & sweet, then he gave us 3 courses and charged more. There was renovation work going... more

of course we are allways concerned when people dont enjoy their stay , yes there was renovation going on but it was not in a part of the house that affected them , i showed them a twin which was not suitable as it was too near some spanish children who might keep them awake , so i gave them...

Spent one night here and Malcolm greeted us with a very warm welcome on arrival. Bedroom was comfortable with tea and coffee making facilities and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was fantastic, with as much as we could eat and at a time suitable for us. We would definately return if in the area again. Incidentally our daughter stayed... more

Dorset is a much adored part of England for us and the quiet cobbled streets of Sherborne make a ideal get-away from the hussle and bussle of London. The Bakehouse was recommended to us by friends and it lived up to its reputation rightwaway, as we were warmly welcomed at a late hour (typical Friday traffic) and offered some homemade... more

We stayed for two nights at The Bakehouse for a friends wedding which was taking place in Sherborne. We arrived about 9pm Friday evening and decided to go out for a drink and Malcolm recommended a local pub which we went to. The Bakehouse is a fantastic place to stay and Malcolm is a wonderful host. Rooms are clean and... more
