Guesthouse is fine, but to say it is "boutique" is pushing it! It's in a decent location, not far from the sea front and near enough to shopping district. However, from the outside it looks like a pretty ropey old terraced townhouse. Inside it is clean enough, though the carpets in the bedroom were badly stained and wet in places... more

I visited Maison Mascara for a weekend away with my partner. First impressions were not good, the exterior of the hotel looked like it had seen better days and needed a lick of paint. Inside the hallway and stairs were clean enough but definitely not decorated to 'boutique hotel' standard. The paintwork was smudged and the carpets poorly laid. Our... more

We booked this hotel on a special late deal of £60, apparently it's normally £135!! The room was called Taupe and was probably nice 5/6 years ago. The ceiling had a large damp stain on it and the walls were dirty, the carpet had a horrible stain on it about 1.5 feet in diameter, the shower room was very small,... more

What a fantastic little place, my girlfriend and I stopped 2 nights to celebrate her 30th and were instantly impressed with a warm friendly welcome from tahir and lee. We had the supierior room with the big bath in it which was great, there was even a little welcome pack with some nice chocolates and an OK magazine! very central... more

Shouldn't call itself a boutique hotel, has seen better days. Only 2 hangers in the wardrobe and when the towels were changed, only one was left! Rubbish from previous guests left in bedside cabinet and room could do with a lick of paint. The toilet seat was loose, as was the sink/unit. We stayed in Clotted Cream, a trek to... more

Seemed a bit of a seedy joint on arrival but clean!Spacious rooms. But an overpriced B&B with no parking.Nearest car 10 mins walking distance if you book in advance. Could do with double glazing as very noisy at night with rowdiness then again early morning with deliveries to the large Indian supermarket opposite.supermarket though worth a visit though-quite a place.... more

I can imagine that this was once a lovely boutique hotel. However, it has definately seen better days and is desperately in need of renovation. The carpets are badly worn and stained, the walls are marked and in need of painting, the overall impression is one of hard times. That said, the staff are friendly and it is in a... more

Have just had a 2 nights' stay at maisonmascara, classed as a "boutique hotel/bed and breakfast". It is charming, cosy room, and has "alternative, modern feel", wonderfully comfy duvet, nice and clean , lots of towels, great shower + relaxing atmosphere.I loved it, my colleagues stayed in other rooms, they were equally taken with it. There is no dining room or... more
